It looks like I will be heading to Rakah late June or early July, with the family to follow shortly. I love fishing, and am wondering if there are any areas close to camp that permit fishing (though the hot weather may delay my hobby). From the satellite images, the area immediately adjacent to camp looks too shallow. Thanks for any tips!

There is a lot of good fishing to be had in the shallow waters here. Especially if there is a reef or rocks. I cant be more specific about khobar but at RT there are a lot of people fishing from the beach or from kayaks within 100m of the shore

You cannot go into the water around Rakkah. Firstly you cannot access the beach - the land is not part of the Rakkah contract arrangement. Secondly there is considerable land reclaimation going on around Rakkah. This has disturbed groups of electric eels in the water and it is dangerous.

:!: Electric eels? Knarly. I guess I was hoping for someone to have knowledge of an area of coastline in Khobar where folks are allowed to wet a line. Not necessarily right outside the door.
Thanks for the feedback!

Is there any opportunity for game fishing? Tuna? What sort of fishing do you find at Half Moon Bay?

People that have power boats at the Half Moon Yacht Association do go game fishing. I've not seen charter fishing boats from Khobar/Dammam, but then again I haven't really looked.
Judging by what shows up at the Dammam fish market (all local and very fresh fish), there are small tuna, mackerel and very large wahoo (called Kingfish in the market). Also lots of bottom fish such as hamour (grouper), various snappers and flounders.

Ok, so I decided to try some early morning fishing at Half Moon Bay (Aramco Beach). Unfortunately, it doesn't open until 7! So I turned my fishing trip into a scouting trip for next time. There were a ton of local families on every stretch of public beach. I stopped at a couple of public areas along the Khobar Corniche, and saw some stressed-out schools of baitfish jumping at the surface. Since this usually means something bigger is trying to eat them, I took this as a good sign. I continued up to the Dammam corniche, where there was some good looking spots around Coral Island.
Will update after I actually fish

Did you actually get to fish since January? I'm interested-like fishing myself and would like to go spinning / plugging for those big fellas.
Living in Rakkah - excellent camp, very grateful to Aramco for placing us here
