Hi Everybody,
We are in the relocation process to KSA and were assigned housing in Abquaiq compund. I have 3 children, 2 of them were already accepted into Aramco schools, but my 7 years old boy will be tested upon arrival. Aramco has told us that we should look and guarantee that he will be schooled while in the kingdom. Therefore I have been looking for international schools in the Abquaiq area, but so far I have not been successful. That is why I post my question here to find if: Does anybody know about any international schools in the Abquaiq area? Hopefully someone in the Abquaiq area can answers and give us some contact information. Many thanks in advance.

There are no international schools in the immediate vicinity of Abqaiq. The nearest are in Dhahran and Al-Khobar. I don't know exactly what kind of international school you are looking for but the website for the International Schools Group which has a campus in Dhahran is: district.isg.edu.sa/

Albatro,
Do you have any idea why they accepted 2 straight away and will test the third on arrival? I have 3 children and will apply to family status after I finish the probation period.

Many thanks GroveWanderer for the link, I will do some research about the schooling. My boy is finishing 2nd grade so I am looking for a 3rd grade elementary school. The problem will be the commuting from the compound to the school. Do you have an idea which is closer and easier to get to, Al-Khobar or Daharan?

Hi Jafra,
The school application process was handled by my relocation advisor, and the explanation given by the school was: from the school records sent they were not able to establish a relation to an international standard, so they will need to test my boy upon arrival to asses his knowledge and language proficiency. It probably helps to say that we are relocating from Mexico, which doesn't follow the American, UK or European standard. My daughters are going to kindergarden and there were no problems. My worries are that I will be working and my wife will have to take him to school outside camp, to Al-Khobar or Daharan, but she is not allow to drive. Probably somebody from Abquaiq compound is going through the same and can share his experience.

Hopefully if your child speaks and understands English, he will be accepted by the school. Best of wishes for him to have a successful evaluation.

dimk,
English is not a requirement for preschool at the Aramco school. Your child would start when he/she is 3 years old, if you choose, and your child would then learn English very quickly. Also, you can always read to your child in English. The library is full of children's books. And, you can let your child watch English cartoons. Small children pick up English very quickly, so it is not a problem.
Actually, my daughter's first language is English, and for some reason she pretty much refused to talk at school (K3) for the entire first half of the school year, then suddenly she started talking to her teacher, A LOT..like a little chatterbox. I guess she just needed time to get used to going to school and the new environment.
