One question I have is the 5-year old rule for imported vehicles. I am anticipating an offer and hence, a relocation in August 2014. My car is a 2009, but the manufacture month is March 2009. Would this vehicle be disqualified from the import process?
Along the same line, I am also considering whether to purchase a car/SUV in the US or to purchase in KSA. Import duties and expenses aside, and considering that the markets are similar in availability, do more expats buy upscale/luxury-type vehicles (BMW, Mercedes, Lincoln), or common-type (Chevrolet, Toyota, Honda)? I'm less concerned with the security of the vehicle versus being tagged as an ostentatious Expat. As a guest in KSA, I wouldn't want to look ungrateful. Thoughts?

Your vehicle must be under 5 years old when it reaches KSA and have a clear le.
Most people drive a car they feel is safe on the roads. They also take into consideration if the want to do off road driving or camping they need a 4 wheel drive vehicle. On camp, there are several who have very nice luxury cars.

Driving a BMW or Mercedes would not tag you as an "ostentatious expat." There are plenty of these cars on the roads, driven by various different nationalities.

"Vpainter", I am planning to bring in my vehicles from US to KSA. Do these have to be 5 years or older? If these are not 5 years old, what do i need to do ? I will greatly appreciate your help.

I'm to ship my 2013 vehicle from Calgary to Dammam and I have a few questions regrading car shipping:
1- Has anyone shipped a vehicle from Calgary? If so, please share your experience with the shipping company you used and please provide company name. 2- How long did it take (pick up from Calgary to delivery to Dhahran) and What was the overall cost 3- Is the engine horse power considered a factor in determining the importation fee? 4- Do I need any provide (prior to pick up the vehicle) any documentation from Aramco to prove employment? 4- I'm expecting the visa stamp before the end of Jan 2015. My plan is to proceed with the shipping as soon as the visa is issued - does that sound a good plan
