Just wondering what the starting age is @ the british school - as in the UK a child will goto state nursery from the age of 3 - and full time school at age 4 - is it the same for the British School DHA

There are two British schools - BISAK (British International School of Al Khobar) and DBGS (Dharhan British Grammar School). Children can start pre-school in the September that they are three rising four that academic year. That is, if your child turns three in August then they can start the following month, but if they turn three in October then they must wait until the following September - the cut off seems to be rigid and common place amongst all schools for all year groups.
This differs from the 15 hours per week which is now commonplace at nurserys in the UK once your child has their third birthday. The number of hours at pre-school differs between the two schools: you should contact them for more information.
I have heard that the French school takes children younger.

o and thank you for adding me onto this forum. I have found it very informative. My hubby has received an offer by email and we are in the process of getting all the forms completed and ready to accept! I am however a worried about our 13year old daughter who is currently in a British system school in Qatar. She will be starting Yr 9 in Sept. I have a few questions and would appreciate if anyone could give some clarification on a few things.
1 . How easy is it to get a placement in DBGS? 2. If my daughter is accepted, is there a chance of being housed in Dharhan, as we were told we would probably land up in Abquiq? If we land up in Abquiq, do we still get the free schooling in Dharhan? What are the transport arrangements from Abquiq to Dharhan?
3. It took 4 weeks from interview to offer.. any ideas on ETA? 4. A quick question - what is the furniture like in the furnished accommodation? If it is anything like our furnished accommodation here in Qatar, you either get ultra modern or very ornate OTT furniture.
Much appreciated

1. You can apply prior to coming by going on their website. Contact information is there: International Schools Group Dhahran. The British school will be listed. Ease depends on if they are at enrollment capacity.
2. Just because your daughter is accepted to the school will not dictate where your housing assignment is located. Aramco does provide bus service to the school from each compound. You have to call the bus office after you arrive and get on the pick up list.
If you are living in ABQ, your child would go to ABQ schools. Aramco does pay tuition through EAP for British school education no matter which compound you live in.
There are buses that go back and forth to each compound throughout the day. The school buses run in the morning for taking to school and in the afternoon to come home again.
3. No time estimates can even be guessed. You can do a search on the forum for "timeline" and read all the timelines posted between each stage of the hiring process. All the timelines from short to very long are normal.
4. No, it will not be like either of your types of furniture. all Aramco compounds except Rakah have furniture that reminds me of the old Cargo Furniture that used to be in malls in the U.S.
Rakah has a different style of furniture, but not ultra contemporary or ornate.

Just to give more clarity on Vpainters post, There are buses that go back and forth to each compound to Dhahran throughout the day. There are no buses between RT, Abqaik, Udhaliya & Rakha. If someone wants to go to RT from Abqaik, first go to Dhahran and then take another bus to RT.
