I have just received an offer and have been browsing through some of the older posts on the forum. I am an American (Houston, TX), married with two kids, and only 27 years old. I found a string that generated 78 posts, and it was initiated by someone who obviously hated working in Saudi Arabia. /thread/2997One of the comments in the post that is really bothering me, and also something my family (and wife's family) constantly brings up, is that it will be hard for me to find work back in the US if I want to return in 5 or 10 years. Is there any truth to this? It seems that the majority of people going to work for Aramco are in there 40s or 50s and plan to work there until they retire, so finding work back home isn't an issue. In my own opinion, and based on who gets director or VP type roles at the current super-major I work for, working as an expat is a major PLUS and not viewed as a negative. The major difference is that the expat roles are within US super-majors and not necessarily expat roles through JVs or other NOCs. Obviously nobody can tell me what is going to happen in the future, but does anyone currently working for Aramco know of people in their early to mid thirties being able to find jobs back in the US in the past? I am hoping for some reassurance that if I accept the job with Aramco that I will not be stuck there for the next 28-33 years (depending on when I retire).

I have the same concern as pierce3215 for my husband. We're in our late 30's with 2 children age 4 and 2. We're prepared, open-minded and flexible with the lifestyle change... in fact, I'm anxious to know what life is like for me to see my husband coming home around 5 everyday.
I'd like to say we're mentally prepared 100% and quite confident that we'll adjust fine in KSA.... there is still an element of unknown until we get there. The worst case is we just couldn't adapt and realized KSA is not for us, would it be difficult for my husband to find work again when we return?

There have been people (U.S.) that I know personally that have left after 1-10 years and all have gone to work back in the U.S.
Friends of ours who have or are retiring from here at age 55 - 60 have all found jobs back in the U.S. (that want to work) and that is including the past 12 months. They have been here between 5 and 28 years.
