o! I am an American mother and wife seeking information about living in compounds. By the time we would make the move from Texas (cinco ranch in katy) my sons will be 1 and 3. MANY MANY concerns here! I would love other American mothers perspectives. Please PM me.
Issues/concerns include:
1. Safety - for Americans in AND out of compound. Travel safety. 2. Elementary schools 3. Family activities 5. Mailing packages in and out of compound (amazon mom?) 6. Fitness - what is the rec center like? Are there fitness classes? Is there child care? Is it QUALITY child care? 7. Food. Groceries in or out of compound? 8. Where is the nearest beach access from either the Dhahran or Rakkah compounds?
We might be in the Dhahran or rakkah compound.

Hi CourtneyP, You have a friend here. I'm from SugarLand, TX; daughter is 4 and son is 2 and our anticipated departure is by Sept. We should hook up when we get there

We order a lot of things online, and we have everything shipped to my mom, and then she repacks everything into a larger box and mails it. She sends via USPS, and we have always received our packages in 7-14 days, with an avee of 10 days. The problem with shipping directly from Amazon is that they ship from different locations and don't package everything together, which definitely increases the international shipping cost.
You can find most groceries in the commissary inside the compound, but you will definitely want to shop at least once a month in a larger grocery store that will have a larger selection and also to get some good deals on the current sale items. There are grocery stores in all the malls, so getting to a large grocery store should not be a problem even if you're relying on the Aramco bus. Also, another tip would be to find a good fruit and vegetable market. You will get fresher and cheaper produce that way.
