Hi!
My husband has just received an offer of employment, and I have been reading a lot on the forum here. I am very curious about the housing in UDH, we are a family of four (two boys, ages 5 and 2). I was hoping someone already living in UDH could give me some info on floor-plans and/or some photos via email? It would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you vpainter!
Cpere70, thanks! I have so many questions about small things, for instance: groceries. I always cook from scratch, I love cooking, so I am very curious what kind of produce is available in the store in UDH?
Can I send you an email?

There is a wide variety of produce in the UDH commissary. If there's something you would like, you can make a request for it, and they will stock it if they can.

Good night! I am currently waiting for my Visa to be stamped in our passports in Venezuela to be departing to UDH by may-june. We are a family of 3 (me, my wife and a 8 months boy). I will be working as Pet. Eng. III at the SAPE. We are very anxious about our departure and would like to have some information about the UDH compound, what is available, how to move, what is near and of course if there is any Venezuelans over there and contacts / recommendations. We are from Maracaibo... If possible can send responses to alfredo_arevalo@hotmail.com or alfredo_arevalo@hotmail.comI find this forum VERY helpful and rich on information. thanks to all!...

o! as mentioned in previous post, me and my family (3 members total, including a 9 mth baby) are scheduled to depart from Venezuela to UDH on may 14! finally! we are really happy to be near departure date!. the only downside is that our Relocator Adv has mentioned that we will be "temporary" assigned to a small apt unit due to no Family House availability in UDH. Does someone has any idea about when could we be moved to our final house (family size)? how small are those "small apartments"?? (I think might be on the bachelors unit? has someone in this forum been in this situation?
hope to have some inputs!
thank you all !

All of the contractor families are leaving UDH compound by the end of the summer. Some have left already, so you shouldn't have to wait too long for a house....but sometimes the renovation takes a while, and they will be very busy with so many families leaving. I'm not sure about the apartment size because a few years ago, they did a project to make 2 bedroom apartments out of 2 existing 1 bedroom apartments. When I first moved to UDH, we lived in a 1 bedroom apartment. It was ok for us because we didn't have kids yet, and it would even be ok with 1 baby. It's temporary, so remember that. You will most likely be assigned a 2 bedroom house since you only have 1 child, but it most likely will have 3 bedrooms (or 2 bedrooms and an office) upstairs. Then downstairs you will have a combined living/dining area, kitchen, and breakfast room. In addition, all homes have a 1 car gae which you can convert to a play room or anything else if you wish. Once you get your home, you should have plenty of space.

Hi all, I have a few more questions I was wondering if there are regular playgroups for my 2 yo boy? He won't be 3 until October, so no Kindergarten for him yet. Here in Norway we go to a weekly expat-playgroup, and I was hoping there is something in UDH as well. Is there a possibility for swimming lessons for children? Would I be able to grow some fruits/vegetables/herbs in the 'colder' months, in the garden or in pots? Thanks!

Yes, there is a playgroup that meets 1-2 times a week at the youth center. They have a great covered and enclosed toddler playground there as well as indoor toys. Yes, there is swimming lessons. They usually send out an email from the community announcing when and how you can sign up. I am not sure what the minimum age is....I think 5 maybe, but you can also try to find private lessons if you wish to start sooner. Yes, you can grow fruits and vegetables, especially in the winter when the weather is perfect outside! During the summer, a lot of plants in direct sunlight will die though, so you may need to build some sort of cover or move everything inside. I don't have much gardening experience, so I'm not much help.

Thank you, UmmRiyam! Here in Norway it is too cold to properly grow anything. I've tried last summer to grow tomatoes, strawberries, a lot of different herbs, bell peppers and redcurrants. We had 4 strawberries. *sigh* So I'm looking forward to a warmer climate! My 2yo son will be very happy with the playgroup, and my 5yo son with the swimming lessons

Bluebelles husband here the last hurdle jumped before our departure. Moving company has confirmed pickup date on Tuesday. After causing a minor stress attack when they said they were booked for the next three weeks (we fly out next weekend). Great work from the relocation advisors and shipping department to get it settled. So, really excited, just a little over a weekend to go and looking forward to starting the job and meeting all the people!
