Apologies for the bad form here. I mean it's a bit much asking about leaving before you've even arrived. However, a question arises. On arrival at Saudi Aramco you have all these things to make you welcome. On departure - you go back to nothing. "So what", is my initial reaction - deal with it. I was wondering, though, and would welcome the observations of those with a lot of time on the ground, should one give a long enough notice of departure then is it possible to ship furniture back well in advance of the departure date and reinstate furniture rental through SA Housing? What do people normally do?

Outboarding is not bad. You will be wanting to give a minimum of 30 days notice in writing. There are like 20 signatures that you have to chase down as you turn in your internet gear, any work computer stuff, library books if you have them, have your house inspected for major changes or damage, things like that. You have to remove your satellite dish and return your house back to original colors (usually one of the laborers can be hired to repaint for a pretty low price). You have to sell your car before you can leave. NOTE: Leaving takes almost the full 30 days. There is a LOT of stuff to do.
About 7 days before you leave you have to turn in your ID and they give you a temp ID and they also put in for your exit visa and arrange your flight home. They arrange the movers that week and you just need to call the warehouse and get a dishpack, bedding, bed, etc delivered on your move date and you use that until you actually depart.
There is a checklist that you follow that has all the ancilliaries and necessaries. We had our apartment arranged back in Houston before we left so we landed, stayed in a hotel, and picked up our keys next day. We used temp furniture until our stuff came in and we got our e-box delivered in the usual 2 weeks or so.
Hope that answers your question.

A 6 weeks noticed should cover all the necessary arrangements that needs to be done.

Yep 30 days is minimum per policy. That is actually cutting it pretty close. 6 weeks would do it nicely.

We actually have had one friend who shipped their things back 3 months early. Their shipment arrived shortly after their return. They did revert back to renting Aramco furnishings.

That's pretty clever. Living out of suitcases on inflatable beds is fun for about oh a week or so.
