Dear all, I was wondering if there are any native Russian speakers living in Rakah, or any other community? I had an interview with Saudi Aramco and it seems as if I will receive an offer. Now I am trying to get a contact my Russian wife can get in touch with to dispel her concerns about compound life. Many thanks in advance. Best regards

Hi liko, We are in the BI, Med, and visa stage, looking like Rakkah is where we will end up. We probably don't qualify as native Russian speakers but we both speak it quite well. I'm hoping for arrival in late spring/early summer.

I can't speak to Rakah as I don't know enough people who live there, but there are a number of Russian speakers living on Dhahran main camp.

There are Russian speakers in Rakah, for instance i'm one of them, and I know one more girl who speaks Russian. Also there is quite large Russian speaking group in Dhahran, they are very welcoming. I can put your wife in touch with these people as well. My email is milavitsanzs@gmail.com, so feel free to contact me personally. I also keep hearing Russian speech wherever I go in local towns (those people are usually Aramco expats from different compounds), as my husband says, whenever you go in the world, 9 chances out of 10 you will meet Russian speaking people. So no worries for your wife on this account. P.S. FYI, not all Russian speaking people are from Russia, in fact there are at least 15 countries, where Russian is either widely spoken or is second official language.

I know of at least one native russian speaker on site. However, your wife will have trouble getting involved with life on compound if she doesn't have a reasonable fluency in English.
