o, first I want to say that my husband let me know about the existence of this forum, maybe two, three weeks ago? (I can't remember, I've been hooked ever since!), well since he got the offer, I feel grateful because according to the level of information available, and the kind responses, all you guys seems to be such good people, and that is really encouing.
Later, well, the reason why I've been attached to my computer all nigths is the need of information, about the company, the living conditions, the country, weather, anything you already know. I need to state here, that my husband applied for a job in SA, was contacted by the company, attended an interview and got an offer without-mentioning-a-word. He came the other day and showed me this website and said "this forum has a lot of information you need to read in less than seven days because we need to decide if we take the offer or not". Shocking, right? Well, because that was around valentine's day and he gave me a big rock for present, I did not kill him. Just a joke.
I read as much as I possibly could and said, 'go ahead, say yes, and please be merciful'
I'm writing to much craziness, to sum up: he is an accountant with a lot of experience in the oil industries, actually we met in one, and, to my happiness or disgrace, who knows, I'm a petroleum engineer, with a master degree, and 12 years of experience in numerical simulation, bla bla, chatter chatter. Because I really have read a lot here, I understand the situation for women, who don't receive family status and many other benefits, or can only get a job under a 'casual' condition, which is not really easy to get anyways (apparently really really hard actually, at least you hold a teaching/medical degree, please correct me if I got it wrong). But I'm not doctor (I presented a dissertation for Phd, but seems that needs to be put on hold, and thinking about it, oil phd don't allow me to check anyone's health (lol)), not teacher, I do oil stuff, with lots of numers, maps and really big computers. So, after all this (fingertips are starting to hurt), does anyone have a ballpark, previous experience, knows someone that knows somebody, anything, about the actual opportunity for a person like me to get a job? I searched like crazy and was unable to find a case to relate to.
Hubby said this is a good opportunity for us as family, and I agree and I'm totally on board, just want some facts, any data that help me drop the issue for good, so I can kiss my career goodbye peacefully.
Thanks in advance, and be safe
