Hi, I am from Calgary. I started to visit this forum one week ago after I searched it out. I am so grateful that there are so much useful information in this forum thanks to the wonderful contribution from lots of you. Now I don't look to other forums for information about the expat life in KSA. I hope I had visited this forum before the interview. There seems to be quite intensive interviews in the last two weeks of Feb and the first week of March in Houston. I was interviewed on Feb 28th and received positive feed back in that evening from the recruiter but nothing confirmed.
I have two questions: I wonder when SA will do the reference check. Is it after the conditional offer being given or before that? The reason I am asking about this is I only ask for their blessing to do reference for me, but they don't know which company will contact because myself didn't even know at the time. I am not sure if I should let my references know now or wait after receipt of offer.
The second question is about housing. I know there are lots of discussion on this. From information here it seems that the main camp is full. But I guess there is always ongoing move out from the main due to retirement and leaving company. So is it still possible to be assigned to it when vacancy shows up? This must sound greedy as a potential resident.
Thanks for your reply. I am very excited about this opportunity.

I'll answer regarding housing. Your housing assignment place will be stated in your offer. The actual house will usually be assigned the week of your arrival.
Yes, there are people retiring, moving out, etc. If the houses have been renovated, all houses are renovated between residents, then it is available for move in.
As found in this forum, the U.S. Rakah residents are being moved onto Aramco property as houses are coming available. Aramco is working on moving bachelors, who have had family housing for a long time after their families have left, out of family housing, the houses are being renovated as quickly as possible and residents are moving in.

Hi MissingSki - I'm from Calgary as well. To my knowledge, none of my reference have been contacted yet and I have just sent in my accepted/signed conditional offer. I believe that they wait until the offer has been accepted before they spend any time/resources contacting references. I can't say for certain but I would imagine that they would want to ensure that their own resources aren't being wasted checking references of people who may not accept the offer.

Absolutely agree. Once the conditional offer was accepted and given a reasonable amount of time for administrative processing, I was contacted by the BI "officer" for transcript clarification (no issue) and shortly thereafter (within 3 days) ALL 3 of my personal references were contacted directly. Cannot say for sure about the professional references because I actually have no current contact with them.

Personal and professional references eh? I didn't see anything about personal references in my documents. Everything was related to my work experience.

The personal references were requested by the BI contact during that single "clarification" phone call. I offered the names and email addresses and he got on it quickly! I was not expecting it and it may not happen for everyone. Maybe there was some suspicion about my character that needed "reckoning"!

I had to provide the BI investigator with personal references also because I am self employed and didn't want him to contact my current client. Within a week all of my references had been contacted and my BI investigation was complete. The investigator commented in his e-mail that "it went very quick".
