Hi My husband has been offered a job with Aramco but still needs to go through the medical and agree a salary . It seems it's difficult to get a job with Aramco as they are very selective, and that he has done very well. Initially I thought I would definitely not go, however I am thinking after his first term ie prob 3 months I would return with him for the following 3 months I do admit to being a bit naive about Saudi and the way of life
I have read some info but thought it would be good to join forum and speak to people experiencing first hand
My main question is around safety how safe are you ? I also wanted to know if people can live on Aramco compound the whole time or do most people travel out with
I prob have lots more questions but this will do for now.
Thank you

If there is a place on this earth that could be guaranteed totally safe, Aramco would be one of those places. Although, no place can be guaranteed totally safe. You should always be aware of your surroundings, just like in any city in the U.S. or Europe.
There is very little petty crime here. Major incidents are not frequent and years apart. Cannot say that about any major city in the U.S.
Women go into town all the time on the shopping buses or with private drivers or taxis, by themselves and with someone or a group.
There are people who never leave the compound except to leave the country, but not many. Everything you need (not want) is on the compound if you do not want to go off the compound.
Most people go into the local towns shopping regularly, not a problem.

I have also heard stories of "people who never leave the compound except to leave the country" but despite many years here, have never personally met such an individual. I sometimes wonder if the stories are apocryphal.

I have met one family that does not leave the camp except to leave/reenter KSA. They are the only one I know personally out of hundreds of expats on the camp that I have met/know well.

GroveWanderer,
The person was in my Division. He has since retired.

As I said, not many. I know 3 families personally who do not leave this camp except to leave and reenter KSA. Personally, I couldn't do that.

I've met ladies whose husbands are fearful of driving outside the compound. I would imagine it gets old soon enough doing errands strictly by bus and taxi if there's a car sitting in the driveway. I'd go bat crazy if I never left camp.
