Hi,
Just seeking a bit of info on trips to Bahrain. By way of background, we are likely to be based in Rakkah and are trying to work out whether or not we can do without a car (given we wont need one on compound).
So, and forgive the 1,2,3, of these questions:
1. Can we get a company taxi to Bahrain? If so, how much does it cost? 2. How about getting back? Can you book a company taxi to pick up in Bahrain and deliver back to compound? Again, is there a particular cost impost? 3. Assuming that 1. and 2. are possible then how do you go about getting the visa for the driver? I am assuming he needs one. Presumably that can be done at the causeway and you pick up the tab (fair enough). 4. Other issues that I have not identified here?

There are challenges relying on taxis and drivers in KSA, although it is possible to book them. The important part is to have a reliable driver for consistency more than anything else. Keep in mind that you will need transportation to do most anything here, including running simple errands, unless you feel the bus services are sufficient. Most people here do get cars because there are activities at many areas, often requiring a car for convenience. The taxi services are notorious for providing a standard response of "no taxis available" when you need one so a plan B (i.e. a car) is often a good choice ...

You can live without a car, but with difficulty: dependent on bus schedules and whether taxis or private drivers are available.
Private drivers and taxi drivers have visas to go to Bahrain, you do not have to get them one, they get their own.
It cost 250SR - 300SR to go one way to Bahrain with a taxi or private driver. We have taken a private driver and had him stay with us while we were in Bahrain. That was a 600SR - 750SR depending on the number of hours there.
Aramco does have a bus through Samara taxi that goes to Bahrain for Aramcons from DHA - two days a week, I think. Other compounds probably have one also. Fee is about 25SR.
