Of course depends on where you live in the local community. Doha is closer than Khobar. Doha: 10 to 15 minutes. Khobar: 30 to 45 mins.
If you have children and choose not to live inside an Aramco compound, your children cannot attend the Aramco schools.

Hey there Vpainter, got my offer today, I am GC12 and will be working in Dhahran. How likely is it that I will be housed in Dhahran considering the housing shortage? I am on single status.
Thank you for your hard work managing the forum.

Thank you all for your contributions. I will be based in Dhahran and as a workaholic (I know sad:)) I prefer to minimise the commute time if poss so an option is to push to be housed on the housing compound near the office, or the tower flat the company has leased. Can anyone PM me about security provided for the leased premises? I appreciate any help in this area.

It would of course depend on where you obtained accommodation. Anywhere from 10 mins to 35 to 40 minutes depending on traffic and location.
Yes, you would need to furnish your own transportation. If you have kids they would be unable to attend the Aramco schools if you live off camp.
I recommend you take the provided accommodation and if you do not like it, then go for the housing allowance for living off camp.

vpainter,
I am single status. Hopefully the housing situation will be resolved soon enough. Am waiting for RA to be assigned.
