I'll be moving to KSA in two months and will be working at the shedgum gas plant I was told originally that i will be living in DHA but just found out earlier today that i will be living in ABQ instead, I am a single 26 year old Texan, which compound will be better for me? Is ABQ a lot smaller than DHA and thus less activities? How easy will it be for my commute? Any adivce would help because i am thinking about not accepting the offer if i get stuck in ABQ...

I know of others who were initially left believing they would be based in DHA then found out at various stages of last minute that they would be allocated elsewhere.
DHA is built along the same lines as DHA as far as housing quality etc is concerned and has a quieter community that some prefer. I wouldn't be one of them - especially if single. Many DHA based Aramcons enjoy going over the causeway to BHA for the weekend. This can still be managed if you are in ABQ I suppose but it's a whole lot more hassle. So in conclusion it depends on you and your social preferences.

Hi Vpainter
Please email me the pdfs about ABQ as well. I received an offer for working in Dahran but am assigned ABQ for my wife and I.
I hear the commute of 3 hours is quite a hassle.
thanks

I heard that single and bachelor staff don't live in Dhahran. They have Ras tanura or Abqaiq choices only. is that true?

DHA is considered full and bachelors and families have been going to ABQ and a few to RT, which is also now considered full. If housing is available on arrival, a very few still go to DHA and RT.

Am told I am likely to work in Dahran. What's the commute like from other housing compound if not Dahran? Can someone kindly share the floor plan for single housing with me?

Coocoodry,
You have to commute either from Abqaiq or Ras tanura if you are not in Dahran camp. Commuting from Abqaiq, You spend 3 hours of your day just commuting.

Some people hate the commute, others tolerate it and others don't mind it. People commuting use their time socializing, reading, napping, or being on the internet with their phone or tablet (one user has posted about this on the forum, if you want to search for the post).
It is about a 1 1/2 hour commute each way from RT or ABQ. It is about a 35 - 45 min commute from Rakah depending on where your office is located on the drop off and pickup route.

Vpainter:
If I take the rental assistance option and decide to live closer to Dhahran in a rental compound say in the Al Khobar area, what would be the commute time from Al Khobar to Dhahran?
I guess that I would need to hire my own transportation company in such case and make my own transportation arrangements.
Thanks.
