Hey all new to the forum. I've got a few questions regarding working for Aramco in Saudi and am hoping someone can help. I have an interview for a skills trainer (mechanical) in London, and all going well would be looking to relocate my wife and two kids (boy at 1 and girl of 6). The positions advertised are in Dammam however I cannot be sure where I would be until the interview and briefing. Does anyone know which compound I would most likely be in if teaching in Dammam?
What are the schools like compared with Uk? As i have heard they have different curriculums, which would make it harder for kids to settle back in college or university once back in UK.
Safety in general? Would it be a good move for a young family?
Salary/grading expectations as a trainer?
Any answers would be great

Please read under the first discussion group on the forum Index Page: Frequently Asked Questions. You will find several posts about the schools and about the differences.

Thanks for that. I have had a look and it has answered some of my queries, however im still having trouble finding out more regarding the schools locations, ie are they within the compounds? as i dont fancy the idea of my kids having to travel any too far on a daily basis. Also the schools follow an American curriculum and i would like to find out how my children would integrate back into UK whether it be college or university later on in life? Regards

The Aramco schools are inside the main Aramco compounds: DHA, RT, ABQ, UDH. rakah has a preschool 3 and 4. Rakah requires a longer bus ride, inside the camps there are also bus rides.
If you want your children in a British curriculum, living in DHA or Rakah that is doable with a bus ride. Once they go to high school, they can go to the British High School in kingdom or go to boarding school anywhere in the world you choose. Once they reach college age, they will apply and go, most kids educated here get in with a choice of where to go.

The journey to the British Grammar School takes less time from Rakkah than from the main camp.

That's not necessarily so - the Dhahran British Grammar School is less than 5 mins drive outside the Aramco Main Gate. Now, the total journey time does depend on where you live in camp - if you live at the "bottom end" of the Hills area your child could be on the bus for more than 45 mins before getting to DBGS in the morning but if you live relatively close to the Main Gate, your child might be on the bus for less than 10 mins. In the evening, the bus drops the children off in reverse order and so a child living in the Hills could be home in less than 20 mins and while a child living in Main Camp could be on the bus for much longer, you can avoid that by picking up your child from the Theater, which is the first stop after the bus enters camp.
My daughter went to the DBGS and she was never on the bus for more than 15 mins in either direction.
Based on what I have read on here, the journey from Al-Rakkah to DBGS would take at least 30 mins, possibly more depending on traffic.
Unless you're talking about the British International School Al-Khobar (BISAK) which is definitely closer to Al-Rakkah than to Dhahran Camp.
