Hi,
I have been given an offer to work for Aramco in Dharhan and I am on family status from the beginning as far as I understand. Most contingencies are cleared and the outstanding part is securing school for 2 kids age 10 and 12 and obtaining visas. I have received a memo from Aramco where I need to sign that IT IS MY RESPONSIBILITY to secure admission into a school for the kids PRIOR to arrival.
The problem is that I am a Norwegian citizen and the kids have not gone to International Schools before. The schools I have contacted (Aramco School, British Grammar School, BISAK, ISG Group) all require that the kids go through some tests locally, although one has indicated that the tests could be administered abroad if for instance the current school could administer the tests, but unfortunately this particular one does not have spaces available. My relocation adviser recognises that I have a problem, but the best advise I got was to look at bording school options which is not something I would consider.
Is there anyone who have had similar problems regarding schooling? If someone could offer me some advise, I would be thankful. It looks like I am in some sort of catch 22 situation as I need to be in country with the kids to get them into school, but at the same time, Aramco wants me to sign that I will solve the problem prior to arrival.
If someone else is in this situation, I would like to know how it is being dealth with.

Do the kids speak English? or only Norwegian? Aramco schools will test them when you visit them after arrival for placement in the appropriate grade. There is a very good post on the differences in the school systems under the first Discussion Group: Frequently Asked Questions on the Index page. I suggest you read that post.
