Have received my visa and will be in Kingdom in a few weeks.
Since I will probably have a long commute, I plan on surfing the net on the bus. I know there is pretty good 4G covee through STC, but I'm not sure that the service works with every 4G phone out there. Ideally, I would like to buy a phone unlocked from Amazon so I just need to buy a SIM card when I arrive. Any suggestions? Do you know for a fact that certain models work or do not work.
Thanks!!!

As far as I know that as long as you have a quad band phone, it will work.

For those looking for 4G service, there are no "world phones" I am aware of at this time. Each region uses different bands and a phone that works in North America on 4G will generally not work elsewhere in the world (and the same for other regions to North America). They phones will drop to HSPA+ in most cases, but it seems 4G is region specific with the current generation of technology.

You are fine to buy a 4G unlocked phone and you can save 10-20% on the price. It has to be unlocked though.. I just bought my wife a iphone 5s in the states from the apple store. I then popped in my tmobile sim card and it worked fine all they way until Saudi. When I got to Saudi, I put in my Mobily sim card and it also worked fine. I did this both for an unlocked Note 5 and iphone 5..

Fourier2020: I forgot to include that the phone must be unlocked. This can be done either by calling your phone company and asking them for the unlock code, buying an unlocked phone, or getting it unlocked locally.
I personally got it unlocked from my phone company (T-Mobile) for free. The latter two options will cost you.
You probably already know this but the phone must be a TDMA type phone (i.e. a phone that requires a SIM).
