o, I was hired to work in Ras Tanura. I was recently told that I will be living in Abquiq because there is no housing in Ras Tanura and I am a single male. Will I be looking at a 2 hour commute each way? Are housing units currently being built in Ras Tanura? Thanks for any replies.

Lots of confusion 're housing just now. If your work location is Ras Tanura you should be living in RT. Ask your processor to check with SAudi.

ABQ to RT?
Nope, dont do it. Make them find you closer housing. A lot of people commute from DH to RT or vice versa, but RT to ABQ is about 90minutes if you drive, and over 2 hours by bus with a transfer.

I would not do that commute either. There should be a closer commute, ABQ to RT is not good.

Thanks for the replies. I didn't have a choice, I had to sign a paper that said I would live there initially until more housing opened up in Ras Tanura. I could not live in Rakka as that was only for families and the main compound in Dahran is also full. I think I will just have to stay in a hotel closer to RT during the week. 2 hours each way is just too much.

craig99,
you can chose to live in the town RAs tanura town, flats are available at decent price. Explore this option. Having been here for a month now, you can't drive this far on daily basis, not safe I think

If your American you must live on a saudi aramco camp. Send them emails as well as calling them because everything here is emailed. Email is how aramco communicates as you will see if you come here. but driving from RT to ABQ is crazy every day and night. don't count on the bus, it's a hour each way (abq to DH 1 hr, 30 min wait time, then DH to RT another hour bus ride) I know there is housing in RT you must be persisent and if you did get the job offer, don't back down, ask to speak to a housing supervisor or send an email to your dept head, they should help you with no problems. PM me and I will give you some good tips.

As Healthcare1 stated, you really should follow up on this and dont give up. Saudi Arabia's highways are VERY dangerous. Not only is it a long commute, it can be a very dangerous drive as well. (The roadways here are the only thing I am really afraid of. In most other ways I feel safer here than I did in most major cities back home).
Housing arrangements frequently change 'last minute' for multiple reasons. Sometimes people transfer, move, resign, etc unexpectedly. Housing is near full here in RT, but there are always people coming and going.

My place will open up when I get a housing transfer to Dhahran. It could be a long wait though. :?

That's not quite true - Americans can be allowed to live off camp but as it is not considered to be "in policy" you have to apply for it and be granted permission. I know US employees who do not live on a company compound.
