My wife is a Vietnamese national, and we're really hoping to travel the region once we get settled in. However, we're a bit concerned about the difficulty for her of acquiring visas.
From what I understand, after earning my iqama, I will have GCC Resident status. If that's true, then will my wife also be able to travel as a GCC Resident to other countries in the Gulf?
Thanks for any pointers!

Assuming your wife also gets an iqama (you don't specify that's what you plan) then she should not have any major issues travelling to other GCC countries. Going in and out of Bahrain is simple, she will get an automatic, free visa on entry. Unless it's changed since the last time I visited, she would need to pay for a visa on entering the UAE and should have an company-issued "travel letter," available either from Personnel (or possibly the HR online site though I'm not 100% sure about that). Either way, check with Personnel. I'm not cognizant of the rules for the other GCC countries, perhaps someone else could address those. It's interesting to note that the GCC countries have just agreed in principle to a "Schengen-like" arrangement whereby a single visa would grant entry to any of the member states. According to the article below, this is due to be implemented by "mid- 2014." I'm not holding my breath, however. www.arabnews.com/news/495656
