Canadian children school placement experiences

For those Canadian friends that have their child/children with birthday between Sept 1st and Feb 28th what has been your experience on your children grade placement?

Have they been offered a test to see if they continue their school grade in their Canadian grade they were supposed to go?

Have your kid(s) been placed on the same school year they just finished or been attending at the time of the move?
