Is PAL mainly for video systems? If I buy a TV in America with 110 - 240 V and 50-60 Htz will this work in either Rakah or DHA?
But to see our NTSC DVD's I need to bring my DVD player or can I get one dual over there?
Rakah is mainly 110V as I've read, if I buy appliances, TV, DVD in Khobar are only for 220V?
I understand that they can change source plugs to 220v but you can't expect to have it done everywhere in the house, what is people experience with bringing or not small appliances, electronics to Rakah and DHA?
Thanks,
Cgyguy

If you get a converter box, your NTSC TV will work with the PAL system here. PAL is the TV signal used here. NTSC is the signal used in the U.S.
We bought a Multi system DVD player here, but have found just a few Region 1 DVD's will not play on it. So we brought one in from the U.S. for those.
Many TV's are dual voltage and you would just need a plug adapter if bought here. 110/120V DVD players and appliances are hard to find now. It would be better to bring what you want. Do put stickers on any 110/120V items with your name, badge number Saudi Aramco and which compound you are going to. Aramcons are the only ones allowed to bring in 110/120V items.
They usually put one 220V plug in the kitchen. There are other posts in Living in Rakah that address this. You can search the forum for the information.

If cable is provided HD in KSA it should work with any HD TV. PAL and NTSC should only be for coax connections. DVD discs have regions so discs bought in one country won't play on DVD players from another country (region). However many DVD players, especially purchased outside of the US, are multi-region or can have their region changed.

We just received our shipment from the US last week, which included 2 televisions. Neither one works when plugged into the cable provided here. We can get a black and white picture but no sound. So my personal opinion is unless you are in love with your television, they are easy to find here and not really any more expensive than the states. So buy here in KSA. But if you do bring a television you can buy adaptors in the US before you come here that should help.

Is the cable coming through HDMI or a coaxial line?

Hi Houston5,
If you are in Rakah, where voltage is the same as in the US, why is not working for you, maybe the frequency (herts)?
Does anyone knows how much for a 50" Smart LED TV in Khobar?
Thanks,
Cgyguy

Cgyguy, problem is the satelitte TV does not work on NTSC TV's. It is PAL and you would need a converter as mentioned to use your U.S. TV with OSN satellite TV. TV's bought here can be PAL or multi-system (NTSC and PAL).

Others may provide you the answer, but I can let you know when I receive my E-boxes. I put a 32 screen LCD TV in one of them. Hopefully within the next two weeks may be.

dimk,
It depends on the exact model of TV and which PAL sub-type(s) it supports. Saudi Arabia uses primarily the PAL B/G system for terrestrial broadcasts. Different countries in Europe use PAL B/G/H/I or D/K. Some modern LCD, LED or Plasma TV's support multiple systems, you could check the technical specs for your TV to find out.
