My relocation adviser is trying very hard to get me over to SA before year end for some reason. Is anyone else having that experience? I can't help wondering if they will still take me if this moves into next year. My visa application was filed with the Houston Consulate last week.
Any thoughts appreciated!

Hi fourier2020, On my understanding of it, if you leave this year, you'll get your repatriation allowance next year, and in 2015. Purely financially, it makes some sense to go this year. Perhaps they're also trying to process you this year so your file is closed by next year as well. We're flying out on the 27th December, and I felt that the relocation adviser was pushing for this year as well. Perhaps someone else knows of another reason? Good luck

It's the financial reason. If you arrive on 31st December 2013, then in December 2014 you will be able to request for repatriation leave which carries with it the vacation money (which is substantial by the way) that you will receive 90 days before your vacation. By March 2015, if you so wish, you can request for another repatriation leave (which carries with it the vacation money etc etc). So practically you get 2 vacation payment within 15 months of your arrival.
If you arrive on 1st of January 2014, you can only request for your repat on the 1st of January 2015 and the next repat request can be made after 1st January 2016 ....

azraeil,
But what about if you arrive, let's say, April 1st 2014, your first request for repatriation is April 2015, and the second is what Jan 1st 2016? How does this works? In the meantime, can you still have vacations taken prior the first anniversary but without the Travel allowance bonus yet given? Thanks, cgyguy

If you arrive on April 1st 2014, then the first repat request with the accompanying travel payment will be in April 2015. In January 2016, you can of course request for the repat payment as well (since that will be debited from the 2016 repat allowance). If you come on 31st December 2013, you can request repat on 31st Dec 2014, and then request another repat in March 2015 (let's say) and then in January 2016, request another repat ... see where this is going? If you come on the last day of the 2013, you will always gain one extra year of travel payment as compared as those who come on the 1st of January the following year.
Yes, you can still take your vacation without getting your Travel Payment (but that will depend on how nice your immediate supervisor is)

My understanding is your first day of the employment is the day you leave your city of Origin. Is this correct? I am arriving Dammam on December 30th Eve. Would this be my joining date? I understand that I will get the brief on my next steps when I meet with Aramco folks at the airport.

revacool,
Your date of hire is the date you step on the plane to leave for Saudi Arabia.

I was pushed very hard to get here before Xmas as well. I landed on the 13th and was pretty much in work straight away!
I work in CSD and I am really enjoying it.
