I completed an interview, and am waiting for an offer that I was told to be soon. I will be hired as a contractor. I am a bit confused for the differences between being hired as SMP. My main questions are: 1- For a Canadian citizen: is hypo tax deducted from SMP contractors? 2- If the offer does not mention anything about tax deduction, does this mean that there will not be deduction? Or I might be surprised with it once I am there? 3- Are contractors normally offered similar benefit breakdowns like employees (over base, expatriate premium, repatriation, education, …)? Or is it normally a lump sum benefit percentage? This is the most important decision to take, and I appreciate your help.

Hi,
The salary they offer is tax free. If you wish to spend it all in Saudi then probably no tax implications. However, if you want to take it back to Canada then there might be tax implications. I'm sure there is a way round it. However, you might want to speak with fellow Canadians from Aramco.
From the offer I have received I get a salary + overbase to cover accommodation, travel allowance etc. No money for education. As a contractor are you taking your family or are they issuing you a single status visa?
We get 3 flights home a year (every 4 months). Also we get around 1 months salary at the end of the year to cover pension etc.
My advice take the chance if you got it. If you don't like it do 1 year out there and then go home. Chances like this don't come every day. However, that's my opinion. Also, you will meet alot of people out there in a similar position to you. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
I hope this helps.

I am interested in how things have gone for you. I am a Canadian in a situation similar to when you wrote this. Thought I'd ask what you knew now.
