Hi All :-)
This is my first time posting and after weeks of research and dealing with unhelpful recruiters, I need some advice from fellow south africans on how they made it into Aramco. I am a law student at UNISA and my husband is a Dentist, living in Cape Town. The job market for my husband in RSA is so saturated and basically you need to know people in high places to get a good position. And even if you do, the salary is low. We have been looking into Saudi Arabia and more so, Saudi aramco to get a General dentist position for him. We've applied online (the aramco website and others), sent CV's to recruiters, met with recruiters, etc for the past few months to no avail. He has over 5 years post-grad experience and has had his own private practices as well.
Can any South African explain how they got an offer and through which agency in Cape Town or one who also works with Cape Town prospective employees? My question is, where do we start? Are there any south african dentists that you know of currently working for Saudi aramco that we could get in touch with??
Would REALLY appreciate any advice. Thanks.

Part of the problem is that the medical portion of Aramco, which dental is a part of, changes as of Jan 1. You will need to have patience. All hires take months to over a year. You can do a search for "timeline" on the forum and see time spans from application to contact.

Hi vpainter
Thanks so much for your response. What changes are you referring to? Also, I've been reading the threads about expats eligible to bring their wives immediately, and for the most part some have said that generally Doctors are allowed to. Does dentist fall under "doctors"? I've read alot about how long it takes, but it's difficult to find reputable recruiters here in Cape Town, who can help you apply for a post.

Hi vpainter, Also my first time posting after LOTS of reading from this website. Thanks to everyone for posting all these helpful information that allow us to make the best decision for our family and our future. Also big thanks to vpainter for the dedication on answering all of our questions and concerns, truly appreciated. My hubby, 2 kids and I are considering moving to KSA with Saudi Aramco in spring/summer of next year, offer is currently in process with BI, Medicals, etc. My oldest daughter will stay back home in University. You mentioned that medical portion of Aramco will change in 2014. Any idea of what portion will change? Is it in regards to hiring people in medical department or there are going to be changes in the employee benefits? I understand dental benefits are not covered by SA. Thanks a lot!

Right now the medical is run by SAMSO and they hire personnel. As of January, a joint venture between Aramco and John Hopkins will start up. Many hirings seem to be on hold waiting for that joint venture to begin. It has nothing to do with benefits, it has to do with hiring medical/dental personnel. No one I have talked to seems to know exactly how that will impact the personnel being hired.

Since SAMSO hired dentists and doctors and all medical staff, I would expect the joint venture will do all the hiring as well.

Try www.symbiosis.co.za/ if you haven't already. They processed my application and it took approximately 6 months from start to arriving in Saudi.

Hi Capetonian.............in. Addition to your husband seeking Aramco opportunity, I thought, he should also be exploring the possibility of relocating to any of the listed 3 countries: Canada, US and Australia. Getting started out there might be rough and tough initially, as is the case with every individual new to a place, but you folks will be better off in the long run..............Just a thought, for you to avoid putting your eggs in a basket.

Hi Capetonian,
One requirement for general dentists that Aramco appears to be inflexible on is that they require them to have an AEGD or GPR residency. I had a friend apply with 20yrs experience and they would not consider as he did not have the one year residency. Hiring criteria could change or become more flexible with the joint venture.
