o All,
I have a few questions which I am not entirely sure I have the answers for, could you please help out?
1) We don't really want to bring anything with us when we come over, so wondering if there is a place we can buy furniture (including unwanted furniture from people who are leaving), so wondering how that is done. Similarly for some appliances, where wear and tear may not be an issue.
2) I know there are running groups, cycling groups and so on, just wondering also if there are art groups, and similar.
3) My wife is a teacher, I was told I had to apply for a residence visa for her to start with at is me that had the offer, however, I am certain a High School teacher with a degree and a Masters degree would be employable here - but not sure about process involved - we have located three schools as well - 1 in ABQ I think and 2 in Dharhan within the Aramco compounds. Not much clue about schools outside. Just trying to get an idea now of how much of a process is involved in her being able to apply to these schools.
4) This may sound like a silly question I am not sure, are there ATM machines we can withdraw SL from our own Australian bank account should we need some for something, initially?
Thanks very much Michael.

Congratulations on your new job!
1). There are furniture stores here, IKEA - near DHA; Several on DHA road going into Khobar, including Saudi styles which are large pieces and a contemporary furniture store.
There are many 220V appliances and a very limited number of 110/120V small appliances. If your house does not have 220V plugs, you can call maintenance and have them install you a couple. The houses come with a stove, refrigerator, and dishwasher. You supply everything else. Washer and dryers can be rented.
3). There are schools (elementary and Jr High) in 4 Aramco compounds. There are International Schools Group KSA schools also, these can be looked at and applied to on their websites. Dhahran High School is one of them outside DHA. There are others.
Application to work at the Aramco schools can be done after your wife arrives in the country. She would be considered a casual employee and all benefits would come through you.
2). there is an Art Group on each compound, and I am sure Rakah will be forming their own as population increases and people submit the request to Recreation. There are lists of activity groups under each discussion group (DHA, ABQ, RT) on the forum, please look for them.
4). There are ATM's on every compound.

Hi Vpainter,
I have been following this forum for a few months and appreciate very useful knowledge shared here.
Can you please send me the abqaiq community pdf which you mentioned, can only be sent to the people arriving in the community. Our ETA is end of December 2013. Can you please send me the (3BR) houses pics as well?
Thanks,

Aramco schools can only hire people with teaching certificates from North America. ISG, the international school out of Dhahran, can hire people with other certificates. I do know Aramco schools are always looking for subs, though, and I believe your wife could sub even with another certificate, but I'm not 100% sure about that.
