As a Canadian, I am really surprised to learn that there is no pre-employment drug screen. Anybody else find this to be shocking?

i think drug testing for employment is a uniquely american/canadian thing. saudi work visas don't require a drug test.

While I cannot speak for Canada, most drug tests in the US are due to pressure from insurance companies rather than for the benefit of the company. At least for the time being Aramcos primary health care system is part of Aramco itself so its not an issue. I was surprised when I found out my insurance when out of Kingdom was through Aetna since they required not only drug screening but no smoking from their clients as well in my previous jobs which used Aetna.

Aramco funds its own insurance, Aetna just administers it.
