Hi, I plan to come over to SA as a Bachelor, and then bring my family over quite a bit later (probably more than one year later). My GC allows for family status. Right now, I understand most bachleors are being placed in ABQ, and so that is where I will probably wind up. On the other hand, those bringing their families are generally getting placed in Rakah. So, I am wondering if/when I decide to bring my family over ... will we be forced to live in ABQ or will I get put on another list that will allow us to live in Rakah? I am hoping to find examples of people who have been allowed to switch once the change to family status happens.
Does anybody know of others who have been allowed to switch compounds?

A friend of mine were in the same situation however he was on Bachelor status in Dhahran compound. When he wanted to switch to Family Status, his request was approved and he was moved to family housing in Abqaiq.

ABK is 90 minutes from Dhahran by bus. That's OK for a bachelor, but a family??? Was Rakah ready at that time? This has me a bit worried.

No, at the time, Rakah was not ready. Try asking your agent where you would be placed if you bring your family along. I don't believe that family status employee will be automatically placed in Rakah. I have a feeling that they will give you family accomodation in Abqaiq.
