I have twin two year olds. Can anyone tell me about the preschool on the compound and what age they enroll children? Does anyone else send their children there? If not, is there any other options for daycare on the compound if we will be working in Dhahran?

They need to be 3 years old on or before August 31, so your twins will start next year when they are 3 years old. The preschool is 2 hours 45 minutes. I am not sure about Rakkah, but in Udhailiyah, we have a morning class and an afternoon class, and each class has 12-15 kids. The maximum they allow is 15 per class, and there are 2-3 helpers in the classroom in addition to the teacher. In K3, they focus a lot on teaching the children how to do simple things for school, like standing in a line, putting their back pack away, etc...following simple instructions. It's really difficult for some kids to get used to. They keep a pretty strict routine. They have different centers set up with different kinds of toys. They read a lot of books and sing songs. They play outside. They eat a snack, which you send with your child. They do a lot of art...coloring, drawing, painting, cutting paper, gluing, glitter paintings, etc. They teach based on units. The next unit K3 will do is buildings, and they are building a new women's gym and pool in UDH, so K3 will take a field trip there to see the building. Last year, they took a trip to the greenhouse, and they planted trees during the Tree unit. Everything is hands on learning. They don't teach alphabet, numbers, or colors directly...it's something they will learn as the year progresses through everything they do. In K4, they do a little more direct learning of those things. My daughter's K4 class just finished making a big rainbow, and they had one week where they all wore clothes of different colors. They also talk more about numbers, and they will start with the alphabet soon, although I can tell you that many of the kids already know the alphabet and have started writing their names. but, even for those kids that are ahead, they won't be bored at all! Reading is taught in Kindergarten. I have nothing but positive things to say about the K3 and K4 programs. My kids are happy, and the teachers and classroom helpers are all great!
Like vpainter said before in your other topic, daycare is something you find by word of mouth after you arrive.

My kid was born on Oct 2010, She is already going to preschool here in Canada. My family might arrive by Feb/Mar 2014. Would she be eligible for the K3 program in Rakkah right away or do we need to wait until Sep 2014.

o,
question for anyone that understands the age specs for pre-K and so forth.. my son is 5, about to turn 6 in November - should he be in Pre-K or Kindergarten? We'd much rather he attend full time school as he's more than able, quite advanced and also used to full days at school in the UK.. I'm wondering if the school has made a mistake and placed in in pre-K when he's actually supposed to be in Kindergarten. If anyone can help me figure this out I'd be really grateful!
