I read that in some of the other compounds there are separate male/female gyms. Will I be able to workout with my wife in Rakkah or should we plan on bringing our own gym equipment for the home? Would be kind of a bummer if there really is segregation like that within the compounds.

The women hours are during the day while you are at work but mixed during weekends. No you don't need your equipment.

(That's the case for Rakkah too? Thought I heard or read that the gym on Rakkah is mixed, but I can't seem to find it written somewhere. )

Rakkah, is the only Aramco compound with a mixed gym. All others are strictly male or female. Rakkah just has ladies only times while the men are at work.

Just to clarify, does this mean that Sunday-Thursday my wife has to workout in the morning and cannot workout with me after I get home from work. But, on the weekend my wife can workout with me at any time.
For those of you who have young children who are not old enough to be left alone, who watches them while one or the other parent works out? In Houston we currently drop the kids off at a child center inside the gym for an hour, and then pick them up before we head home. Vpainter told my wife the other day that there are no childcare centers at the gym, so I imagine there is some alternative.
I guess if we are assigned the Dhahran compound, then our days of lifting weights together are over (at least while in SA).

People here in every compound help each other, you may find a couple with kids who would also like to workout together and you arrange a cooperative babysitting between you so you can each workout. Or you will find a maid/nanny who can babysit for you or a teen who wants to make some money.
Most everyone is away from family here and friends become your family.
Rakah has ladies only hours while you are at work. Then it is a coed gym. You can workout together after work.
The ladies could consider getting together and asking Aramco for a room for child care with toys and the ladies pay someone to watch their kids in that room while they work out.
The childcare different groups in DHA provide is paid for by the group wanting the childcare during their activity. Many times that person is one or two of the nurses who are off duty and want to make extra income. I don't know if the Rakah clinic nurses would be available for something like that. Just a thought.

Bluecheeze - my wife and I are fitness fanatics so we totally understand where you're coming from. I'm sure that once we get over there and settled we can figure something out. My wife and I have pretty different workout routines so we don't train together but we know how important it is to get your daily workout in. I have a gym quality treadmill and elliptical that I'll likely be shipping over. Also, if you're looking for a lifting partner other than your wife while you're there hit me up; I'd be more than happy to lift with you!

Other than from 7 am to 1 pm during working hours the gym is women only. All other times it is coed. My wife and i work out all the time together. The gym has also changed its hours to 430AM-930PM. So now, it is easier to work out in the mornings.

llfarms,
I think you mean, "Other than from 7 AM to 1 PM during working hours (women only), the gym is coed."
