o All
I received some paperwork from Toyota ALJ at Khobar to allow me to take my leased car to Bahrain. Will I need additional paperwork from police or any other state authority to show at the causeway or will the paper from ALJ be sufficient to cross the border and back.
As always, thanks a bunch!

The paperwork should be sufficient, but rules can be fluid. The main thing is to have a copy of the car istamarah and the authorization, which should be registered with the police as well.

Thanks Made a U turn from causeway back to Saudi as I did not have chamber of commerce letter attached with ALJ documents. The customs folks directed me to go to nearby police office to get paper work from there in addition to car financier document-where I found out that I did not have chamber of commerce document hence no police certification was given to me. Lesson learned.

Here's our recent Bahrain car experience. We have a financed car and don't want to deal with issues of paperwork or worrying about its well being in another country. We had a Majestic taxi drive us each way over to our hotel in Bahrain. We stayed at a hotel that had a car rental right next door. For the five days we were there, we drove the local rental car around without worrying what we'd do in case of break down or collision. Even when our car is paid off, we'll still do it this way. We're not frequent Bahrain visitors though.

Darn the luck - got timed out trying to post reply. Here's the quick version:
1) get papers from dealer (tell them you want to go to Bahrain) 2) present papers and your driver license and ID at traffic dept outside Main Gate 1 (immediate right after exit gate), and they give you the document you need to cross. 3) Present that document and passport when you cross.
Enjoy!

Hadia,
You have answered partially a question that I raised elsewhere - travel to Bahrain by taxi. Are you able to give a bit more detail as to how this works and anything special that you would recommend addressing to ensure transport both to and from Bahrain goes smoothly?
Many thanks

I can answer that for you. Taxi is very easy but, call the companies early in the week (Sunday or Monday). They will pick you up from Aramco (in Dhahran) and drop you off at the hotel you choose (reserve the hotel in advance).
If you use the big-name taxis (Samara, Majestic, etc) you will pay 250 SR one-way. If you find someone who knows smaller shops that are more hungry, you can get across for 160 SR (but I don't know them). I have used Samara and they are reliable. You just tell them which day and time you want to go back and they show up at your hotel. (Make sure to enable roaming on your phone, and get a roaming package from your carrier or it will cost you.)
Also note there are Aramco buses that go to BAH on Fridays. There is one from Abqaiq that leaves in the am and from the other camps but, I don't know their schedules. They often go back early if everyone on the bus agrees to go back early but, you can also just use them to get over there and get a taxi back.
Oh yeah ... leave right after work to make good time through all the border control checkpoints. If you go right at 4:00 pm, you can make it in 2 hours. If you leave at 5:00 expect longer. If you leave the next morning and get to the border by 7:00 am, you can make it across in 35 minutes!
Of course, bring your passport.
