I understand it is not uncommon, but my housing assignment has been changed from RT to Rakkah since apparently there are no 3-BR houses available (I'll arrive on 1st November).
I was just getting all the info on RT and now have to start from scratch, but what is really pressing me is finding out about commuting time. How long would the daily commute take from Rakkah to the Ras Tanura office?
Also, is Aramco giving the 30-min extra commuting time similar to people who live in ABQ and work in Dhahran?
Many thanks

You are going to be living in Rakkah and working in RT?? Unfortunately, even if you drove yourself, I would say from door to door it would take an hour each way. Personally, I would struggle to do that long term as the road is crazy.

That is what I was afraid of...
I am pretty upset (just to use a "light" word) by this last minute change, my offer stated "office location RT - housing location RT" and I made a major decision based also on that... now that I am 3 weeks from arriving and have already resigned from my current employer, they give me the news
So there's nothing really I can do, just live with it for the first couple of years I suppose... but really not a good start.

Is there any way you can be put on a wait list or something to get assigned the first available 3 BR house in RT as if you're a new hire rather than having to bid? Maybe they just don't have a house ready to move into, but one is waiting to be renovated...I wonder if there's any way for them to reserve a house for you in RT so you won't be stuck commuting for a few years until you have enough points to win a bid into RT camp.

GC plays a role, too. If your GC is higher (15+), you could get priority in housing allocation.

We also have housing in Rakkah and work location RT. In the offer letter work location and housing both were in RT. 3 weeks back they told us our housing has changed to Rakkah. Our visa was applied last week and assume our departure date will be in early Nov. Anybody currently working in RT and live in Rakkah?, would really like to know the commute time.

I haven't found anybody who is doing the commute yet, but my understanding (from the relocation advisor) is that from now on Rakkah camp will be used to house all new recruits for RT who need a 3BR house, until some renovation/new buildings are complete at RT. She couldn't tell me how long we will be housed there, could be weeks or months before we are offered the option to move to RT.
I will be there from 1st Nov and also got in touch with another guy who's moving from the UK on the 29th of October. Again I have been told that if not from day one, soon after my arrival there will be a bus who takes all people working in RT directly to the office (without having to change bus at the main centre). But again, I think the commute will be about 1 hour each way.
Nobody has been able to tell me whether we will have the different check in - check out times to take into account the commuting time (7:30am and 3:30pm), as is the case for people who leave in ABQ and work in DHA.

A friend of mine was supposed to be housed in Dhahran but there was a problem with his degree certfication and he had to delay his arrival post July 2013. He was informed that due to the delay, his housing assignment was changed from Dhahran to Rakah (which was upsetting to him obviously).
When he arrived at the Airport, they brought him to Dhahran so all is well. Let's hope you have the same "luck" as he did.

azraeil, Lucky? Once he visits Rakkah, he may wish he has been placed in Rakkah instead

Maybe. But being able to have lunch at home for both himself and the kids .... priceless.
