To all the golfers! I am a golf nut, who have been lucky enough to play on some great (grass) courses, so have a number of questions about what golf is like in KSA. What is it like to play golf on sand, and how does it work? I understand that you take a piece of artificial turf with you (where do you get one?), but how does that work with putting? How many holes is the course, and how long is it (is it just a pitch and putt)? Are there any facilities for buying the 'turf', golf balls etc.? I normally walk round carrying my bag here - it's the only exercise I get! - but is it too hot to do that over there? Do buggies/trollies even work on the sand? Are you limited to times/days you can play, or eg is it seasonal due to bad weather (heat/dust etc.)? Is there a driving range/professional lessons (for me or for kids)? Or are these only available in DHA? How hard is it to get to the course in DHA (presumably the drive is the same as for the commute to work), and is it always busy there? Do you have to play in 4-balls? How long does it take to get round? I take it that there are no water hazards, at least... If you have read this far, then thanks! You must be a golf nut too.

The golf courses are 18 holes - full size. The fairways are oiled sand and the greens are sand. The water hazards are marked off, but you are right there's no water. There are sand trap areas also.
The turf circles are found at the pro shop. You do not use the turf for putting, you just putt on the green. Pro Shop will carry balls and some clothing and some equipment, not a lot.
People golf year round if the can stand the heat in the summer. The golf course in DHA has 9 holes lighted.
Golf carts are available for rent. You can walk the course.
There is a driving range. I think the compounds have a golf pro who gives lessons, but someone from ABQ will have to answer that question. I will send you a contact to ask.
No you do not have to play in 4 balls.
Tee times are given out. Number will be on your phone list in your home. There are busy times after work and on the weekends. During work hours, not busy. There are golf tournaments that close the course to other golfers.

Nice post, hopefully we are arriving on November, I´m also a golf fan (newbie) with the hope to have more time for practicing and even play with my 4 year old son that shows interests and talent.
