Hi – I have some questions related to the probation period. I hope someone can help and all of us can benefit from the answers.
1) When does the probation period starts? The policy I have seen states that it starts from the day, the employee reports to work. Does this mean the day you arrive in the Kingdom or the first day in office?
2) I will complete 90 days on 23rd Sep (Last working day tomorrow as it will be holiday until 23rd). So far I have not heard anything from my supervisor or personnel. I have received informal feedback which has been generally positive. Is this normal or I should expect a formal appraisal meeting and a letter confirming the completion of probation period?
3) Should I speak to my supervisor about it or remain quiet and take no news as good news?
4) I took few days off as short leave during my probation. Are these included in probation period or the probation period is extended by the number of days you take off?
5) I’m tired renting car and living with the furniture I don’t like. Can I finally go ahead and buy car/furniture etc with peace of mind?
Thanks for help.

1 & 4 (Taken from the IR Manual) In answer to question 2, although the IR Manual says that you are supposed to have regular meetings to discuss your progress (at least every 30 days) and a final meeting before your probation is up, I would say it is fairly normal not to hear anything official (I never did). In the dept where I work I have never known of anyone failing to complete their probation successfully (although I know from reading this forum that there are cases where this happpened) and so as far as I can tell, at least where I work, the probationary period is considered something of a formality and is pretty much taken for granted.
I have not heard of any official notification in the form of a letter (or in any other format) being given when the period is completed and the IR Manual doesn't mention one.

No news is good news. I don't believe there is any letter or notification that you passed the probation (I didn't get anything). When I did ask my supervisor he said that I'm fine and that was that.

Don't worry about that ... if they want to let you go, they would have told you long time before the probation period ends.

Thanks for your replies. Apparantly from what I have heard, in our department there have been people who were sent off during the probation so I wanted to be sure on what is expected off me.
GroveWanderer! thanks, I have seen this policy, however I wasnt sure on what consutes 'reporting to job' - is it the day when you arrive in the Kingdom or the first day at work.
