Hi. Looking for other "English Teachers" to answer some of these questions. These questions are pretty detailed and may not be answerable to most forum participants.
I have applied to all of the "English Teacher" jobs that have been offered in their respective departments, and I have received an interview with the Industrial Training Department/Center. However, although the job le is the same for all of these jobs, there are subtle differences to the position descriptions.
I am wondering a few things:
1. What is the difference between the Professional Learning Division, the College Preparatory Program, and the Industrial Training Department/Center? My guess is the the PLD(C) is for college graduates from other universities who need more English training, the CPP is for high school graduates hoping to go on Aramco's college, and the ITC is for high school grads who are not working toward a college degree. Is that correct?
2. What the ITC job is like? How many contact hours are given a week? How much homework am I supposed to assign? Is the job mostly a workplace ESP type situation?
3. Are materials developed by and for Aramco? Do people use outside materials?
4. Do all/any of these different departments have terms/semesters? If so, how long are they? How many are there? When do they start their "school year"?
5. Do all English Teachers at Aramco pool their materials together? Do they have weekly/monthly/term meetings? Do they meet only within or between the other departments?
6. Is is possible to do a site tour of where the students work as to do a needs ysis?
7. I have heard that 100 teachers can be hired at once. How long are the contracts? How many teachers are there total?
8. What are classrooms like? IE: are they "smart" classrooms with projector, doc cam, sound system? How many students are there usually in one class?
9. How are the classes divided? Are they discrete Reading/Writing/Grammar/Speaking/Listening classes, or are they integrated? I know that the CPP does TOEFL and SPAM training. What do they require those tests for? (Students aren't sent out from there to study abroad, are they?)
Anyway, these are my many questions to get a clearer picture of what I'd be doing and sound more intelligent during the interview. Thank you for your help.
