The date of this post is August 14th. I was just informed I would be leaving in 6-9 days.
I am an American being hired as a language specialist...ESL instructor. At some point...soon hopefully...my wife (Korean) and 2 year old son will be joining me.
I will be very interested in meeting people once I arrive. I am 43, play guitar (jazz, rock, everything...) I actually have 15 years experience teaching guitar.
I also play chess and once upon a time I played racquetball, tennis, squash, table tennis... i'm not very good at any of them but do my best.... the perfect opponent for someone who likes to win!
I also play chess, backgammon, and various other games.
I'm sure my son would like to find playmates around his age and we are also interested in having him take Korean lessons (not sure if that is possible) .......
A few questions:
I have gotten no information packet, have no idea where I'll be living, etc. I'm guessing I'll find out all of this at the last minute but if anyone has any sort of information packet I'd appreciate having a look at it.
Look forward to meeting new people in Saudi Arabia soon. PM me if you'd like to meet.
Thanks, John Foster

John, Welcome to Aramco!
I would give you a contact person, but don't know which compound to give you a contact for.
There are always people looking for guitar teachers. You will definitely be able to teach if you want to. Once here, you will be able to find the ways available to get the word out. At least in DHA there is a Music Teacher's Guild.
There is tennis, racquetball, squash, chess, and many other self-directed groups for you to participate in. There will be a list of the self-directed groups in your house with a contact person when you arrive.
There will be friends for your son, no worries. And activities for your wife and as a family.
Safe Travels!

Hi John,
It seems strange that you are arriving in the Kingdom in a week and don't know where you will be living.
You should contact your recruiter in ASC as he / she should be able to tell you where you will be living and it should also be on your offer documents...
Good luck!

Not strange at all when going to work for a contractor working at Aramco and not a direct hire with Aramco.

I read somewhere that trying to bring these games IK are prohibited because these are games of chance. I wonder how often these are removed from shipments?

Not to be unhelpful, but there is almost no way to say whether, or how often, things are removed from shipments. Everyone has various anecdotal evidence from friends/acquaintances but since the stories are anecdotal (and possibly apocryphal), they will not necessarily give you the true, overall picture.

Well...I finally got my ticket! Hooray! I'll be at there August 28th. I'll be the bewildered looking, sleep deprived American. If you see me buy me a coffee.
