o!
I had a few questions about the new Rakkah Compound...
- I've heard this location is about 25 - 30 mins from the Dhahran Compound. Does anyone know how many miles? - Is the traffic bad during the rush hours from Rakkah to the main Dahahran Compound and back? - Is the Rakkah Compound located right at the sea wall? I googled the location and it seemed like it was surrounded by water on three sides which seems kind of odd! - What is the cost of keeping a driver there and are drivers easily available?
Appreciate the feedback and help!

You can read about the Rakkah compound in the Discussion Group: Living in Aramco Communities: Living in Rakkah.
Going out the gate of Rakkah, the gulf is across a stretch of privately owned land. At this time, there is no access to that beach for residents of Rakkah. As an extension of Dhahran, the residents have access to the DHA beach and Yacht Club beach.
I do not know any Aramcons who have private drivers that they keep. There is a taxi company on the compound and there are the Aramco shuttle buses and shoppers buses. There are private drivers for hire that are found by word of mouth once you arrive.

Thanks vpainter!
I guess nobody seems to know the cost of a private driver..I have asked several folks. Any idea anyone?
Also, any idea how many miles the Rakkah compund is from the main Dhahran compound. All the information on the forum is in terms of time it takes to get there so was trying to gauge is that rush hour time and maybe the distance is not as much??
Also, I am guaging from your reply that the Rakkah compund is NOT surrounded by water which is how it appears if you look at it from google earth. Seems like the sea is some distance away across the beach.
Thanks!

The private drivers we use either charge between 30 Sr/hour and 50Sr/ hour. Each driver sets his own rates.
Sorry, do not know miles between camps, just time, 25 mins there was considerable traffic, and it was moving.
I entered through the gate, the water was across the road and a field. Since the compounds are walled, do not know if the water curved around to appear like it was surrounded.

ExpatsRock,
Using Google Earth's measurement feature, the distance from the middle of the Dhahran compound to the middle of the Rakkah compound is roughly 14 km / 9 miles "as the crow flies."
Driving distance would obviously be a fair bit more, due the various curves and turns along the way.
