Is there a way to find out resale value of a certain car. We just bought a 2013 Honda Pilot, pretty much right before my husband got the offer e-mail. We are planning on shipping it to SA. Can someone tell me if Honda Pilots have a resale value in SA or is it one of those cars that you don't normally see there?
If its not a much bought car in SA then we might be better off selling it here and taking the loss.

During the interview presentation, someone asked a similar question. It was advised that it is not worthwhile bringing cars to KSA as most 'foreign' cars won't be adequately prepared for the environment conditions there. It'd better for you to sell yours and buy one once you are there.

Actually quite a few people ship their cars and they are glad they did. It is much cheaper to ship than to buy here. I have a couple of friends who have shipped their cars, they have not talked about having problems with them here, other than what every car has trouble with. Batteries do not last long and must be replaced more frequently due to the heat.
There is a Honda dealer here. Even though your warranty may not be good here, they could service the car. There are Honda Pilots here, looked since I read your post.
We have a jeep we bought here. There is a jeep dealer here, but sometimes the parts we need are gotten quicker by us bringing them in with us when we have gone home.
The rules for shipping your car is that it must have a clear le. It must be less than 5 years old.
There is car shipping information gathered under the frequently asked questions discussion group.

vpainter,
With my respect to your opinion ,cars imported to Saudi are build and designed for GCC region ,as the main problem will be later is the AC plus heating ,,,etc ! btw, I am from EU and most of the cars there can go on roads here but not with the same spec. for the car which imported to KSA ,beside the price ,no Taxes in KSA so you can make your calculations ,if its allowed here I can post an online cars market for Saudi region in English ,just let me know ,the prices there in SAR then you can finalize your calculations ,maybe in the ICE age it was great to bring my car with me because I wont be able to find something similar here ! but now days you can find every thing here and based in the weather requirements plus if its new you can use the guarantee which you will lose if you bring your car with you ,one more advantage is resale value ,, as the car which you will bring not build for Saudi ,it will lose too much from the original value because ppl will prefer the car with GCC compliance ,best of luck !

Viahero,
Thank you for your opinion. I have personal friends who have shipped their cars, mini vans and SUV's from back home. They are each one glad they did and they have no more trouble with their vehicle from back home, than we do with the cars we bought here.
Even parts and repairs, the friends and us who have cars from here, sometimes cannot get parts for there cars here in a timely manner because they don't have them in stock here. We bring in parts for a Mercedes we bought here, a model that was never sent to the U.S. but sometimes the parts just aren't available here for months on end. So we go to a part store back home, and bring the parts in with us. I have brought in a new back seat for our jeep,(bought here) new tires and parts for motorcycles we bought here, hoses, belts, filters, pumps etc. and we have bought every one of them here.

Vpainter: You're a bike fanatic too ... Made me smile when I read that.. What kind of bike do you ride? Just a side trail: Thank you for giving valuable input to this community. I reflect back to everything you say such as giving advice/suggestions to just your personal opinion. I have a long way to go before I'm even considered for any positions at ARAMCO but who knows. Thanks! Sorry for thread jack!

Here we have a Kawasaki Versys 650, a KTM 380 dirt bike, and a Trials bike on the ship headed this way. Back home we have a BMW 1100RT. Have had previously a Honda 650, Kawasaki 250 and Suzuki 125 dirt bikes, a Honda Fat Cat and others. Our boys started on a Honda 80 and a Kawasaki 60. Love our bikes!
Your Welcome!

nxpat,
When I was in Saudi, back in 2010, I used to own MRV(called Pilot in USA). I managed to sell it for 60% of purchased price after four years of useage, it took me 2 months to sell, so it was not very hard to sell, many expats like them but locals prefer Landcruisers, that has being my experience anyway! .

Regarding Jeeps I've noticed even aftermarket parts are available in stock in KSA (eg Jeep Care in Jeddah) and even Jeep fan clubs whit pretty nice modified Wranglers. As a good friend of mine say:I'm not an yankee but love my Jeep!
@ Vpainter & to whom is interrested to join: what about having our own Jeep club there? I'm in! It would be much easier to those interrested to share info about how and from where to get parts, how to solve tech issues, etc.
From Europe to ship to KSA my Jk is not worthwhile. I've studdied this matter closely and it costs me too much. A new JK in Khobar is half the price in Europe and you've got the new 3,6 vvt pentastar in it instead of that lazy VM diesel.

We have pictures of 3 other friends and our jeeps all lined up at our sons baseball game and used to go out into the dunes.
Jeddah is a long way from DHA just to get a jeep part.

We had a similar situation when we accepted our offer. We had just bought a brand new Honda CRV 3 months before we knew we were moving to KSA. If we had sold it in the US, we would have taken a loss of about $6000. To ship it here, duty, paperwork, etc. was about $4000. We shipped it and we are happy we did. As far as I know, the comments about US cars not being equipped to handle KSA conditions do not apply anymore. I checked our tires, radiator, and AC and they are all the same as Hondas here, except our vehicle is one model year newer than what they are selling here. I can just about make it snow in our car when it is 120 here.
I spoke with Honda and the warranty is indeed void. In the end, we have a great vehicle that we know the full history of and it serves our family well. It's a Honda, so we are not expecting it to need much of anything beyond routine maintenance which can be found easily here.
Best of all...no dinging to listen to when driving 120 km/h...
