I am wondering about the medical insurance by Aramco, how good is that? As you know, all other companies use Insurance companies, like puba, which makes it very convenient and smooth to visit any private hospital.
However, I heard in Aramco we chose only one hospital and stick to it for life, how practical is that? What are the limits in terms of treatments, medicines, operations..etc?
Thanks

I've been overall happy with the Aramco hospital and clinics. When we have needed a referral for another hospital, we were able to choose which hospital we wanted to go to. Aramco doesn't work with all hospitals, but there are choices.
There is some sort of supplemental health insurance that some expats can get for when they're outside of Saudi, but I am not sure about that. My husband is Saudi, so we are on the Saudi healthcare plan which doesn't have any insurance options, only reimbursement on medical emergencies while on vacation, and there's a deductible for that if you make a claim.

Thanks UmmRiam for the info.
What about dental treatments? I am confused, what is included and what is not?

Medical insurance etc. is different for each type of payroll, so it depends on what payroll you are on and your grade code.
The compounds have medical clinics run by Aramco. The care there is free. There is an Aramco hospital in Dhahran where those from all compounds go if necessary. Care there is also free. So, you are tied to this hospital if you live on a compound and elect medical covee.
When traveling outside of the Kingdom, the situation is different based on what payroll you are on.

I don't think dental is covered, but cost is reasonable. Aramco has dental clinics on each compound.

I think if you live outside the compound, then you will need to choose a hospital for all your medical care. I am not sure of the specifics of that. Each hospital that Aramco uses has an office IN the hospital for Aramco. Aramco takes care of the cost. You won't pay anything, just like when you go to the Aramco clinics and hospital. I have no idea if it's easy to switch hospitals, but you can always make an appointment with a different doctor in your assigned hospital.

I think some of the terminology being used here is a little confusing. Aramco does not provide medical insurance (at least, not in they way I understand the term) to cover you when you are in kingdom. Rather, it provides free medical care. If you are living in a company-run family camp there will be either a hospital (Dhahran) or clinic (other camps) that you can attend free of charge and which, in the case of the clinics, can refer you to another hospital (either Dhahran if convenient, or other if not) for specialist care. Those who do not wish to use the Aramco clinics/hospital as their primary care provider can choose an alternative Medical Designated Facility (MDF) as their primary health care provider. For instance, when I worked in Jeddah, using a company clinic would not have been convenient (none nearby) so I chose a hospital in Jeddah as my primary MDF.
Contrary to the OP, you do not have to choose "only one hospital and stick to it for life" - as mentioned, I used one MDF in Jeddah but I had a different one when I was in Yanbu and now use the Dhahran hospital for primary care. However, there are restrictions on how often you can change, assuming you have not changed residence location in the meantime.
As others have already stated, when you are out of kingdom, medical insurance provisions vary according to payroll.

For U.S. employees, the health Insurance works in the kingdom at other hospitals that are in the kingdom, when the need arises to go to a hospital outside Aramco medical facilities. It acts like regular insurance with deductibles.

Hi, Are Canadians covered by payroll or should they buy their own health insurance once outside KSA? If the latter is the case, can they purchase premium in Saudi? How much is the premium? Thanks
Hi, Do Canadians have to buy health covee while outside KSA? If yes, what are the terms? Is there any broker in Aramco? what are the fees like for individual? Thanks
