Last year I applied for a job as a physician in Aramco. I received an offer a few months ago to work for Saudi Aramco Medical Services Organization. This leaves me with 2 questions.
1) Is this part of Aramco or will we be considered contractors?
2) I have heard rumors of a joint venture with Johns Hopkins from the United States in the near future, how will this affect my employment?
Any help would be appreciated.

The doctors, nurses, etc have all been direct hires of Aramco, even though SAMSO has interviewed and hired personnel on Aramco's behalf.
The John Hopkins International and Aramco joint venture will take affect in early 2014. You would still have a job, I do not know if the doctors, etc will be JHI employees or Aramco employees, but since it is a joint venture, you may be employees of both. But do not really know.

SAMSO is an Admin Area within the Industrial Relations Business Line of Saudi Aramco.

SAMSO is simply the medical wing of Aramco. Historically, all of us who have been hired by SAMSO work for Aramco. (Aramco housing, Aramco schools for our kids, Aramco IDs, etc).
We had been told new employees would be hired through the joint venture, but if your offer was last year and says SAMSO you may still be directly under Aramco. I would check with your recruiter about it though.
As the others have said, no one knows what will happen with the joint venture. It was signed, but the details have not been released. What limited information would do have is not concrete, so I would rather not post it.
Good luck to you!

Thank you,
Has there been any updates on the joint venture with Johns Hopkins?
I spoke with my recruiter and he told me I would be a direct hire for SAMSO/Aramco and not a contractor, but some colleagues already in Dhahran have told me that may change as the joint venture moves forward.
At this point Im in a holding pattern until I find out more...

I have been interviewed for a position as an Assistant Consultant in SAMSO early July, yet i have been told by the recruitment office in Beirut that i will be offered a contract. However, it has been almost 3 months now and the delay is presumably due to the joint venture with JHI. Supposedly they are reviewing the offers and probably withdrawing some.
Can anyone please tell me how much true is this, and if i need to be concerned about such a delay or is it normal, knowing that they routinely perform background checks after signing the contracts which takes further 4-5 weeks.

SAMSO is still here until January when the joint venture starts. Do not know if it is causing delays.
The delay could just be normal time it takes to be hired and come to work for Aramco. Weeks to months to over a year.
