o everybody , My name is Laura, I am from Spain and my husband, Richard, is from England. We are a young family with an almost 4 year old son, Víctor. My husband just got a job with Al Hoty-Aramco- as an english teacher. I have a few questions and I would be very glad if you can help me to find answers!: 1. The company is going to help us to find our house or my husband has to find it when he arrives at Dhahran?. 2. Electricity, internet, water...are expensive there?. 3. I am in love with my spanish convertible car, can I take it with me to the compound from Spain? (I know women can drive there). I know this sounds superficial but this is the only car which I feel secure while I am driving. 4. I had my own business in Spain which I sold because moving to Dhahran is an adventure that I really want to live. I am a very active person and I really need to work there and I was wondering if I could get a job easily and if I could have to wear the "abaya" while I am working. 5. I don´t really understand why my son and I have to wait three months until we can join my husband in Dhahran. Why we cannot go all together?. 6. How is the weather in winter? Is it cold or warm?. Is the beach near to the compound?. I love sun and good weather. Thank you everybody and I am sorry if my english is not perfect!

lauraespana,
It sounds like your husband is a contractor? Or is AlHoty a direct hire with Aramco? Did your husband's offer say if he was getting a housing allowance? Or did it state he would reside and work in DHA?
If a contractor, that company should be taking him around to find his accommodation or they may have their own compound where their employees live.
There are convertibles here on the DHA compound, so if your car is less than 5 years old and has a clear le, you could probably ship it here. There is a list of shipping companies people have used under the discussion group: Frequently Asked Questions.
Some employers, including Aramco, are requiring employees to work out their probationary period of 90 days prior to the family coming over.
If you live inside Aramco DHA compound and were able to find a job, then you would not have to wear an abaya. Outside the Aramco compound, it would depend on your employer.
The beach near DHA is about 45 mins to an hour drive away. Only conservative one piece ladies swimsuits allowed.
Winter here is not very cold compared to other places, but after being here awhile and becoming acclimatized to the heat of summer, it can feel cold. Temperatures can be in the 40's*F to 80's*F.
Your English is very good.

Al Hoty is a contractor company. If your husband is being hired by Al Hoty, you will not be living in an Aramco compound and there would not be much point in bringing a car for you to drive. In any compound you might live, other than Aramco, there is not enough space inside the compound for it to be worth importing a car, with all the costs and logistics that are involved.
In the majority of compounds (including Aramco) you do not pay for electricity and water. I believe some compounds may have free internet, it depends which one you end up on.
As you are Spanish, I guess you would be more familiar with temperatures in Celsius. In winter, the temperature ranges from overnight lows in the single digits (it gets as low as 2 deg. C at night sometimes) and into the low-to-mid 20's during the day.
