Hi there,
Will anyone recommend any internet service provider with high speed internet in Ras Tanura? There are couple comments about internet use in Dhahran but I could not find for RT Camp. Appreciate any comparative recommendation.
Second, how is sweet water in RT houses. Is it safe to wash small babies with water of bathroom in houses, or is it just raw water? I am surprised when I see that sweet water is nery recently supplied to houses in Dhahran Camp

If you're on camp, the Aramco DSL usually avees about 3-5 MBps. Some people have slower speeds, usually due to old wiring within the house itself. Housing will correct this if contacted.
The only other options I am aware of are satellite internet or service from one of the mobile cell phone providers. The area of the camp near the commissary seems to have decent covee from the mobile companies, but some areas near the beach and on the north side of camp have poor signals.
As to the sweet water, the only sweeer taps in most homes are in the kitchen, and they should be just fine for bathing a baby. We have bathed both of our sons in it without any trouble.

I bathe my baby in the raw water. The raw water isn't contaminated or anything...it's just too salty to drink.

I can say about the internet: get a portable modem from STC. You can get this at the al-Mujamma building in DHA where you will likely go on the day of your orientation. It costs 350 Riyals for 3 months and has unlimited Gigabytes. The connection goes up to 21 Mbps, connection between the wireless modem (the one with the SIM) and your machine is 802.11b, g or n-standard (n offers up to 300 Mbps). In some moments in DHA and RT the connection goes faster than 6 MB/sec, which is much more than what you get in (especially the older) compounds (like DHA or RT). The Aramco internet costs you 40 USD a month, while STC costs roughly 79 only once for three months. The small modem is extremely portable and lets you i.e. chat on skype with your family or girlfriend almost everywhere you go. Plus, one thing that cannot be stressed enough and not many people really know the difference: Aramco offers an "intranet" that is not at all the same as "the internet". It is basically a "portion" of the internet, a huge one admittedly but always a portion. Therefore IMHO forget the Aramco internet and get an STC portable modem…

Well, my STC seemed to work ok for the first 2 weeks, now its frequently below 1 MBps. Occasionally we get 10+, but more often than not its been running under 1-2 the last week or so.

Hi everyone,
I was the initiator of this internet and sweet water topic for Ras Tanura camp before I move. Now, I experienced all and sharing for any newcomers.
Aramco supply ADSL connection to the housing within 7 days. You need to have your SAP access first, and then apply and they will give appointment within couple of days. Now, regarding the speed of DSL, I am performing speedtest.net sometimes and my result is as below : Ping 44 -52 ms , download : 5,55 - 6,47 Mbps , Upload : 0,57 - 0,72 Mbps (lowest and highest readings). So this is already good to watch HD stream movies, Skype Video Chat etc...
Regarding water there is no issue really. In the kitchen there is sweet water, and all the remaining water is a little bit salty, so this is not to drink, or use for food etc. But this raw water is neither contaminated nor hot. The sweet water in the kitchen is drinkable however, I think, general trend is to buy those 19 lt bottled water. The bad news is here, for almost ten days, the commissary have stopped water delivery to the houses, which is actually less problem to the existing community members, however worse for newcomers until they buy their cars.
Best wishes for everyone
