I just found out that we too will be placed in Rakkah instead of Dhahran. Per the latest communication, all candidates with an original ETA date 7/1 onwards will be housed in Rakah. Only candidates who had an original date before 7/1 will still be housed in Dhahran.
Good: better houses, better furniture, a lot of freebies (furniture rent, internet, gardening)
Bad: now our kids will have to commute to school (hopefully road safety is not an issue). Wife's ability to drive is even more limited now. Also concerned that we'll have a harder time adjusting to life in KSA as we will live in a much smaller community.

I think you will be surprised how well you like it in Rakkah.

Additional questions about the new Rak(k)ah compound…
Coming to the realization my new home will probably be nestled inside the Rak(k)ah compound (not Dhahran as my husband's offer initially stated), I was wondering if anyone can help me out with the following questions…
1) I understand in the other Aramco communities we’re given the liberty to make modifications to our house to make it a home. Such as, enclosing the small paved back patio and adding an awning type structure for shade. Will this freedom also be extended in the Rak(k)ah compound even though its not actually owned by Aramco? 2) Are there any pictures of the beach where the Rak(k)ah compound is located? I’m aware it’s not available for use, but, I’m curious to get a better idea what it looks like. 3) Vpainter posted the Rak(k)ah compound offers free high speed internet with a max speed of 20 mbps. Can anyone elaborate on the approximate avee internet speed residents are currently experiencing? Is the internet connection Dial-up, DSL or Cable? I’m wondering if I’ll have problems instantly streaming Netflix through my VPN. 4) Also, I’m a fitness instructor with several various certifications from the US. Are there any particular types of fitness classes any current or future residents would like to have available to them in the Rak(k)ah camp?
Thanks, in advance, for your response. I look forward to meeting everyone on this new adventure!

Compound living is actually fun, especially for your wife. She and the kids will make lots of friends easily. I've lived in both and had a great time living in a small compound. There are excellent facilities there and I think you will be happy. Yes, commute to work and school is an issue but it's not that long.

Bloomingdispostion,
1). You will have to check with the Housing supervisor when you arrive and determine what you would like to do. Aramco housing may or may not approve what you decide on, but definitely try and state your reasons why you need to make the changes.
2). I did not take a picture of the gulf outside the camp but saw it. It is not a formal beach area. It is someone's land across the street from the compound and it has water frontage.
3). I don't know if I got the initials right after the numbers, but is a whole lot faster than what we have in DHA and we can do Netflix, so you won't have any problems with your VPN or streaming or downloading.
4). Glad you are a fitness instructor! Just what the compound needs. There is one person there doing some fitness activity, but can't remember what exactly. All you need to do is set up classes through the recreation office, you can charge for your instruction.
The nice thing about Rakkah is you can ,make the compound your own. Want something, ask for it. Aramco is willing to work with the residents setting things up for life there. It will be up to the residents what they want provided.
