I have read that it is advisable by some to bring a personal safe, presumable for items within the home that are of high value, i.e., elry, watches, etc. My question to the forum is if this is perceived as necessary by those who live in the compound, specifically Dhahran. We do have numerous items that are of significant value. Is safety an issue within the compound? We can easily pack a safe within one of our shipments, but do not know if this is necessary. Any practical advise would be appreciated.

We have a small personal safe that my husband bolted to the wall. It hold our passports, credit cards we only use for travel or when we repat. Our U.S. license, social security cards, igamas, cash, and such. Basically anything I don't want lost, misplaced or stolen. I don't personally feel our community is unsafe. In fact I rarely lock my door. That being said I feel better knowing my passports are safely stored away and can't be picked up by the help or others. The safe is a personal choice for us we already had one in the states so we threw it in a dish barrel and brought it along. It also is comforting to know stuff is locked up when you are away for long periods on repat.
