I thought it would be worth to ask the more IT-experts of you to help summarize what one would need to have/bring/install in terms of ITC (and maybe one of the administrators can post the results under the FAQ section?)
so what I understood from the forum so far is:
1) Phone line and Internet services Local phone is available from day one, better to bring your own cordless phone sets or you can buy in DH. Wireless internet is installed within the first 2-4 weeks of moving into camp (provided by Aramco). They deduct $40/month for the high speed internet service. Better to bring your own wireless router (question: 110V or 220v??). And bring your own computer(s)!
2) International calls Skype will work just fine with the DSL connection; however, those who are interested might get a vonage device, to be previously set up in the US/UK. This will enable to make phone calls to the countries selected in the contract at no cost other than the monthly fee (which is 23.99 GBP in the UK by the way).
3) VPN router For a monthly fee of under 100 USD/70 GBP it will enable you to watch TV, access websites, etc. via your laptop/TV/Wii as if you were in the US/UK. NOTE: a VPN router is effectively a wireless internet router, so you do not need to bring a wireless router and a VPN one (See point 1 above).
Any comments and additions?

I can't find any Vonage rate as high as £23.99. The most expensive package on their UK website at the moment is £18.99 a month for unlimited calls to 49 countries (£14.99 for the first 3 months).
Their cheapest package is £5.99/mo (£3.99 for the first 3 months) which includes unlimited calls to landlines in the UK. There is a minimum set up fee of £18.98 for any of the plans.
I currently pay £8.99/mo for a Vonage package including calls to the UK, US, most European countries and several of the major countries in SE Asia.

Sorry I typed "23" while I simply intended 3.99 for the base (UK landlines only) plan

100 bucks a month for VPN is insanely expensive. Witopia charges USD69 bucks A YEAR for the Pro plan.

Thank you, I heard mixed comments about the use of Proxy servers - would you recommend them in terms of quality/reliability over a router option?
