Me again
All our appliances such as kettle, vacuum, microwave , toaster are 220v
Are transformers easily available to buy for high watt items?
We were going to buy new microwave and vacuum and ship in ebox but these would be 220v but as I understand if I did not and bought he, in Saudi I would also be buying 220v so basically how do we Iron Clothes & Hoover ?
Thanks

Aramco is installing 220V plugs in houses. They are trying to renovate houses and put in dual voltage plugs in the houses. There is a large number of new hires coming in, that it is not happening as they would like.
Once you arrive if your house does not have 220V plugs, call maintenance (you will have a phone number list in your home on arrival) and ask them to install them. Let them know that all your appliances you brought are 220V and you need them.
Transformers are readily available in the local community for all wattages requirements. Saco World in the Dhahran Mall carries them.

While you can use a transformer for a 220v appliance, you might find it to be more hassle than it is worth. For example, a compressor in a fridge or freezer will have a high current draw and likely blow the fuse in the step-up transformer regularly. When housing does put in an outlet, they are not putting in many outlets. You need to decide if your appliances are worth bringing when you know the power could be a problem.
