Hi All,
I have an interview this weekend via a contractor with Jatco as an English teacher. I was wondering if any of you could advise me on living conditions and where to ask to be located. I am doing web research to help myself but would definitely appreciate some feedback from you guys!
I'm just after some peace and quiet, not interested in partying/boozing etc. at weekends, and am assuming I won't be offered a compound as the offer states I'll get a housing allowance, so I'm guessing I'll have to find my own accommodation. (I'm male.) I've heard commuting can be "fun" without my own transport, and don't want to be next to a mosque (naive?). I'd appreciate some security and pleasant neighbours, and a gym/swimming pool would be nice... I'm going to be on my own as I'm not expecting to relocate my family here anytime soon. Am I looking for pie in the sky, or is my wish-list reasonable?
What can I expect from thew following places, please? Any to definitely avoid?
Ras Tanura Dhahran Abqaiq Dammam Mubarraz Riyadh Jeddah Yanbu Turail Al-Joul Tabuk Dhuha Al-Qassim Rabigh Khamis Moshyi Najran Jizan
Seriously, many thanks for any info - it's appreciated!

Hi, Not sure that you'll get a choice about asking for a location -it may be that they have a specific location/job already planned. Most of the compounds are very expensive so that's probably not an option. The English teachers that I know start off by living in a hotel, then eventually get around to renting accommodation in the local community. The main downside to that is that you may find it harder to get access to gym/pool. Driving/commuting can be "fun" but you get used to it fairly quickly so it's not a major issue. There is some comfort in driving yourself rather than relying on others. Security here in the Kingdom is fine, compound living is easier for families but a single male you'll not face too may issues. If you don't live next to a mosque, I'd be very surprised if you can't hear one - unless you're in the middle of the desert The reality here is that the experience is so different for everyone, it's difficult to give you standard replies. Many towns are still expanding so someone's experience from even a few years ago may not be reflective of today. Places like Jeddah, Riyadh and the Eastern Province (Dhahran, RT, Abqaiq etc) will have the most expats therefore the best choice of activities, events etc. Also on the Eastern Province you can visit Bahrain easier. Jeddah, Yanbu, Rabigh, Jizan all have access to the Red Sea if you're a diver. Also the first 3 are near to mountains as well. Tabuk is also in the mountains but can suffer from more extreme temperatures even snow!! Khamis (Mushayt?) and Narjan are a bit more remote but Khamis is close to Abha which is a (locals) tourist spot, mainly in the summer. Jizan was fairly small but is undergoing a rapid expansion due to new refinery etc. I've heard of Qassim but can't really help you - as for the others, never even heard of them Good luck with your interview

No, it is a contractor company - full name is Al Jehat Company. They provide ESL teachers and Industrial training staff to Aramco.

sir, Good evening,
I am from india and got an offer from Aramco for Yanbu refinery on 05.06.13. I was given family accommodation in Yanbu. My specific queries are
1, How is the Yanbu Camp. 2, In Job offer there is approx 13 % salary deduction from my Base salary and will not given any rental assistance. Is this o.k? On what basis deduction is made. 3. I have cleared medical and BI is going on. How long it will take to get visa or to reach KSA.
Any one please guide and inform.
Regards.

There is no Yanbu Camp. You will be given a house (quite large) in the Royal Commission area of Yanbu. This is the same for all expat families - there are 2 compounds in Yanbu but are expensive and Aramco will only give you a certain amount towards this option (based on your salary)
For salary requirements or details, you will need to discuss with your relocation adviser. They should tell you what any deductions are for.
Visa timings vary, once you clear BI, it will depend on the government application. The visa you receive will be for 90 days (you have to be here in 90 day period to apply for permanent ID)
