Hi all,
Only 5 days left before we depart for Dammam and I can’t tell how much excited (anxious!) we are at the moment. I guess a little bit of anxiety is normal and hopefully things will not be as tough as we think they may be. This forum has been amazing and has really helped us in understanding what to expect when we get there. Thank you all for sharing such helpful information and a special thanks to vpainter for taking his time out to email me information on Abqaiq (that info was precious!). I have some last (hopefully!) set of questions and would really appreciate any help.
1) I have been told that as I’ll be starting in the middle of June, I may not get my salary until end of July (as I need to sort out my Iqama and a local Bank account first). I will choose to split my salary to be paid both in the UK and in KSA. Does it mean that I will not be paid anything (salary, settling in allowance and shipping allowance etc) in both the UK and KSA until I get my local Bank account set up or I can be paid in the UK account only?
2) Assuming that I don’t get any pay until end of July, and I want to rent a car from the very first day – how much in SAR should I bring with me.
3) I hear the temperature in this part of world is touching 50 degrees Celsius! Now to be honest, I have never seen mercury rising above 30 degrees in the last 10 years and never above 40 in my life! So what do I expect? Am I going to faint as soon as I step outside airport or I will be OK? Any tips to avoid being struck by heat?
4) Does the heat mean you can’t go outside (outdoors) at all or you can do ur late evening walks and go to kids park as I assume it would be cooler late in the day? What about recreational facilities – are they unusable during hot days like these or they are air conditioned? I’m especially worried about my 2 years old’s reaction to this heat. He really loves outdoors so it’ll upset him if we keep him inside all day. I’ve heard kids are first to adjust to change in climate – is that true?
5) Lastly due to my wife’s health we would like to have some sort of domestic help as soon as possible. If anyone knows about the availability of a maid/nanny or even a helper boy in Abqaiq who can spend a few hours 2-3 days a week (we are fully flexible on days and times) then can you please PM me and I will get in touch with them on our arrival. Really appreciate your help on this.
We are looking forward to be part of your community and hopefully people will be as welcoming and friendly as they have been on this forum!
