Hi All,
I am UK new hire (Engineer II, GC 13) i won't post a timeline but started the application late last year and this week i am attending medicals and visa's etc. I am told they want me in country within the next month or so.
I am arriving on a single status (divorced) but plan to remarry this year, could anyone be kind enough to tell me if it is a simple process of obtaining family status once i remarry? I would assume i am not breaking new ground here, but just wondered if it is a bureaucratic nightmare or a straight forward procedure?
Is it a given i would receive family status once remarried or is it best not to assume that i could gain family status once married?
Thanks for all the information on here it is a great help.

Family status eligibility is GC 11+, so you would qualify.
Our friend who divorced after being here on bachelor status remarried later and it took about 3 months to get all the paperwork and medical clearance and visa. She just has to go through the process all wives have to go through to come, but you must be married first with a marriage certificate to start the paperwork.
Congratulations on your coming wedding.

Thanks Vpainter, i was originally offered family status for some reason so i informed them of the error and they sent a revised offer.
Anyone know what the single accommodation is like in Dhahran? The offer letter does state that due to shortages in Dhahran i may be accommodated in Abqaiq or Ras Tanura so is there a big difference between sites? i know the commute is something to consider, but i was wondering if the accommodation differs much?
They did inform me however that no matter when i married i would always be allocated Abqaiq housing, i've read everything about the commute on here so not looking forward to that. Is that a definite also or just a party line said to all?

Housing in all four Aramco compounds are similar. Bachelor housing can be a one bedroom apt, studio apt, or townhouse.
Commute: pretend you live in Houston, TX and chose to live in the suburbs, you take the metro bus to downtown everyday to work. Read, catch a nap, and/or socialize on the bus trip.
Same thing.

Thanks again, the commute routine was exactly my thoughts too. Doesn't look like there is anything to worry about really!

Bachelors are usually assigned a bachelor housing in Dhahran though I know some who have been assigned bachelor housing in Abqaiq.
If you live in Dhahran in the bachelor housing and you change your status to family, they will request that you move to Abqaiq.

I take it that no matter what, I would not be offered married housing in Dhahran? I have read the numerous opinions on this site but I am still unsure.
My mentality was that i will get in country and then find out the ground truth for myself?

foreiron, No, that is not necessarily so. Every new employee is assessed and decisions are made on a case-by-case basis. All you can say is that at the moment, going by your nationality and the GC you mentioned, it is unlikely that you would get family housing in Dhahran.
Azraeil is probably right that if you have bachelor housing in Dhahran and change to family status, you will most likely not get offered family housing in Dhahran. There are always exceptions, but a lot fewer these days than there used to be, due to the housing shortage at the moment.
