Hi, we are in relocation process from Toronto Canada to Dhahran waiting for the school enrolment confirmation and was asked to provide provincial test results for my son who is in grade 6 now ,does some one know what they mean by that ,has already provided his latest midterm report card as we will be receiving the end term report at the end of June (school year end) . Does any one knows what is standardized test reports(also called provincial exam results) mean ? Replies will be greatly appreciated

Whatever standardized testing your school has done is the results they want.

Ontario has standardized testing for Grades 3, 6 and 9. These are administered by the province mostly to ensure consistent education quality at the schools and not really to assess each child. However, I believe the parents do get a report on how the child performed in the test and whether any remediation efforts re necessary. I believe they are typically done in May of each year (our daughter missed the grade 3 tests as we moved here in early May). The school here is probably looking for those results. You can follow up with your school to find out when the results will be available.
Feel free to look us up or PM me. We also moved from the Toronto area (Richmond Hill) a few weeks ago.

Sparkle75, One other point to consider is that the cutoff date for enrollment here is August 31st as opposed to December 31st in Ontario. That means that if your child is born between Sept. 1 and Dec 31st (like our daughter), they may end up repeating a grade when they enroll over here. The good news is that the schools are quite good compared to the avee Ontario school. Our daughter was doing similar math work in Grade 3 that she is doing in Grade 2 over here so the fact she's going to repeat Grade 3 in September is not that big a deal for us. In fact, since she is now with kids her own age (as opposed to being the absolute youngest in her class in Toronto), we have seen her confidence grow . On the reading side though she is well advanced compared to her peers over here so we (the teacher and us) do try to challenge her on that front. The teachers are more than willing to work with the parents and child to ensure he/she is getting a good education.

Great info, thanks, but what about if a child hasn't had the standardize test (Provincial exams) because is not yet in Grade 3? Will the school be OK with school records only or we have to find a test to be taking by the child before going there?
Thank you all,

gbhatia,
My son in Sept 5 and Grade 2 in Alberta, this means that he'll have to repeat the year for mere 5 days? My Daughter is from November so I guess the same case applies. Have they check the kids for placement only by DOB?
Thanks,
cgyguy
